	The Space Science Laboratory is an observatory laboratory that primarily studies the sightings and chances for alien life in outer space. After its chairman, Genzo Umon takes in the alien prince Duke Fleed; it also served as a hiding place for the Grendizer. With the attacks by the Vegan Empire, the lab had to use its equipment to locate the alien threat and send the Grendizer to subdue the empire. It also shares close ties with the Makiba family ranch. 			Dr. Genzo Umon is the director the Space Science Laboratory studying the recent UFO sightings as well as the co-owner of a ranch tended by his friend Danbei Makiba. He is also the adopted father of Duke Fleed, who gave him the alias Daisuke Umon.<br>
			Dr. Umon found Duke after he crashlanded on Earth fleeing from the Vegan Empire. Dr. Umon took Duke in as a son giving him the name Daisuke Umon while repressing his memories as Duke Fleed. Eventually Dr. Umon introduced Duke to Danbei Makiba and his family, including Hikaru Makiba.<br>
			Dr. Umon is a warm and friendly man who is easy to approach and talk to. However, like many scientists in the franchise, Dr. Umon prefers to stay focused on his job than anything else including the ranch he owns and his family. <br>
			Dr. Umon is an astronomer having a large institute dedicated to studying the cosmos. He also has access to special equipment in fields including robotics as well as mechanics as shown by his creations of the Spazers. <br>
			When the Vegan Empire started their attack on Earth, Duke regained his memories and Dr. Umon guided him to where they hid the Grendizer. After fending off the Saucer Beasts, Dr. Umon and Duke share Duke's true identity to Koji. Deciding to help Duke in his fight against the empire, Dr. Umon serves as an adviser and support such as construction of the Spazers.<br>

			The Vegan Empire is the central antagonist force of Grendizer. The empire is run under the dictatorship of King Vega, who primarily has all of Planet Vega's forces focused on military exploits. The military forces seek to expand their forces across the universe for total domination, and to find a place to live due to Planet Vega's instability.<br>
			Most of the empire's members are the native Vegans, but some members also included members of species whose planets had been conquered by the Vegan Empire. The Vegans are the native intelligent species of Planet Vega, with most of their members composing the Vegan Empire. <br>

			The Vegans are a humanoid species that stand up on two legs without tails. Many of their members have long bat-like ears and various skin tones including green and tan. They also possess features commonly seen in other species such as a pair of arms, visible pectoral muscles, as well as mammalian features such as breasts. However there also exist some members that have unusual features including Princess Rubina who had human-like ears and porcelain skin.

			The Vegans are an advanced species capable of using advanced technology capable of traveling through space, areas capable of supporting life on uninhabitable areas like the moon, and create giant war machines including the Saucer Beasts.

			The empire's weaponry is mainly based around Vegatron (ironically this is the element that caused Planet Vega's downfall). While a great many of soldiers make up the military, the Vegan Empire's main weapons are the Saucer Beasts (later the Vega Beasts). For vehicle transport, they use special UFOs that are capable of faster-than-light travel of varying kinds including the MiniFO. <br>
			Vegatron is a radioactive ore found on Planet Vega. The Vegan Empire uses it for construction of their weapons including the Saucer Beasts, with the radiation being used as its power source. However, the mining and overuse of Vegatron caused the planet to become unstable, causing the Empire to seek out new worlds to conquer. Eventually, the radiation caused a disaster resulting in the planet's destruction.
