Secret Society of Supervillains

The original Secret Society of Super-Villains, also known as the SSoSV for short or simply as either the Secret Society or the Society, was a super-villain team that was secretly created by Darkseid as a replacement for the ineffectual Intergang, although it quickly developed into something much more autonomous and individual.

History

The Society had been largely scattered to the winds after the Infinite Crisis, especially with most of its leaders gone. Although Dr. Psycho and the Calculator still operated using it, eventually the two of them dropped it as well, and the Society was considered finished. Later, during the events of "Salvation Run", the villain community as a whole would be devastated by deportations set into motion by Rick Flag and Amanda Waller. The villains of the world were rounded up by the Suicide Squad and transported by Boom Tubes to an obscure planet billions of miles away from Earth, where it was thought they could never escape.
The Secret Society of Super-Villains has a long history, but this current incarnation was formed in the fallout of the Final Crisis. After Lex Luthor was arrested due to his collaboration with H.A.M.M.E.R., he and other super-villains, many of which had been exiled off planet, and restrained in the Ultramarine Corps' floating city-base. After organizing a breakout with the help of Gorilla Grodd, Luthor moved away to Gamorra Island, where he started re-assembling a SSoSV, no longer pretending to be a law-abiding citizen or a political figure, embracing his role as a Supervillain.
