The term kaijū translates literally as "strange beast".[13] Kaiju are science fiction and fantasy creatures, generally "Godzillian" in size and character. They can be antagonistic, protagonistic, or a neutral force of nature, but more specifically as preternatural creatures of divine power. Succinctly, they are not merely, "big animals." Godzilla, for example, from its first appearance in the initial 1954 entry in the Godzilla franchise, has manifest all of these aspects. Other examples of kaiju include Rodan, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Anguirus, King Kong, Gamera, Daimajin, Gappa, Guilala and Yonggary. There are also subcategories including Mecha Kaiju (Meka-Kaijū), featuring mechanical or cybernetic characters, including Mogera, Mechani-Kong, Mechagodzilla, M.O.G.U.E.R.A., which are an off-shoot of kaiju. Likewise, the collective sub-category Ultra Kaiju (Urutora-Kaijū) is a separate strata of kaijū, which specifically originate in the long-running Ultra Series franchise, but can also be referred to simply by kaijū. As a noun, kaijū is an invariant, as both the singular and the plural expressions are identical.
==Ghidorah==
Monster X was summoned by X through the Gorath asteroid. Godzilla destroyed Gorath with his atomic breath in the skies over Tokyo, annihilating the city. Monster X then floated down behind Godzilla and attacked him. Monster X overpowered Godzilla in hand-to-hand combat until Godzilla retaliated, resulting in a stalemate between the two monsters. Eventually, the modified Gigan arrived to assist Monster X. Monster X held Godzilla still from behind while Gigan sliced his chest with his chainsaw hands.
Mothra arrived and knocked Monster X and Gigan down, freeing Godzilla. Mothra and Gigan then fought and destroyed each other, leaving only Monster X and Godzilla. The monsters resumed their battle, with Godzilla gaining the upper hand and pinning Monster X to the ground, then proceeding to punch him rapidly. Godzilla tried to blast Monster X in the face with his atomic breath, but Monster X pushed his head away, causing the beam to strike the Xilien Mothership instead.
After the Mothership self-destructed and the Xiliens were destroyed, Monster X and Godzilla engaged in a beam-lock, causing both monsters to be blown back. After this, Monster X transformed into Keizer Ghidorah.
Keizer Ghidorah (カイザーギドラ Kaizaa Gidora?) is the true form of Monster X, which debuted in Godzilla: Final Wars. After his transformation, Keizer Ghidorah engaged in a beam lock with Godzilla, his gravity beams easily overpowering Godzilla's atomic breath. Keizer Ghidorah then repeatedly attacked the outmatched Godzilla with his gravity beams, tossing him across the ruins of Tokyo like a ragdoll.
Eventually, Keizer Ghidorah approached the fallen Godzilla and kicked him repeatedly in the head before lifting him into the air and draining his energy through his bite. The crew of the Gotengo saw Godzilla losing his energy to Keizer Ghidorah, and Shinichi Ozaki used the ship's Maser Cannon to transfer some of his Keizer energy into Godzilla. Godzilla was immediately re-energized and released a shockwave of energy, breaking him free from Keizer Ghidorah's grip.
Keizer Ghidorah tried to retaliate with his gravity beams, but Godzilla blasted off his middle head with his atomic breath and caused one of Keizer Ghidorah's gravity beams to sever another head. Godzilla then tossed the maimed Keizer Ghidorah over his shoulder by the beast's remaining neck. Finally, Godzilla threw Keizer Ghidorah into the air and blasted him with his red spiral ray, pushing Keizer Ghidorah into space and causing him to explode in the upper atmosphere.

=Technology=
Technology in the [[World of Kaiju]] has been developed mostly to deal with and counter the appearance of the ''DaiKaiju''. The general level of technology is similar enough to Earth of the 21st Century in most Worlds. However, weapons and super military vehicles have been created to counter the threat of immense, devastating Kaiju.
==Weapons==
===Oxygen Destroyer===
The Oxygen Destroyer is a heavy device composed of a metal capsule with a glass central chamber. Within this chamber is a second capsule attached by rods at either end. Contained within the capsule is a large amount of what would be later known as Micro-Oxygen, the weapon's payload. Numerous gauges and pressure meters are present on the larger capsule. To operate the Oxygen Destroyer, the two ends of the larger capsule have to be pushed inwards. This causes the rods to secure the inner capsule to pull apart, releasing the Micro-oxygen within.
The Oxygen Destroyer was the invention of Dr. Daisuke Serizawa. Having devoted his studies to the element oxygen, Serizawa accidentally stumbled upon a volatile and deadly chemical reaction. Though horrified by the destructive potential of his discovery, he nonetheless continued his research, optimistic that some beneficial outcome could be produced from it.
The device works by activating a chemical stored within its spherical center, which causes the center to split in half and open. Once released, the chemical (later dubbed Micro-Oxygen by Kensaku Ijuin) reacts violently with the water, isolating oxygen molecules and splitting them. The molecules are then liquefied. This means that any organism exposed to the chemical will first suffocate from the lack of oxygen, and then disintegrate.
Depending on the amount of the oxygen destroying chemical released, the body of the victim will either be eaten down to the bone or destroyed completely. When used to its full potential, the Oxygen Destroyer will leave no remains. According to Dr. Ijuin, if the Oxygen Destroyer had been used on land, it would have turned Tokyo into a cemetery.
Creatures that thrive in anaerobic environments, however, such as the Precambrian crustaceans that became Destoroyah, can be empowered by the Oxygen Destroyer's chemical reactions and mutate to incorporate Micro-Oxygen within their bodily processes.
===D-03 Missile===
The D-03 Missile (D―03 削岩弾 D―03 Sakugan-dan?, lit. D-03 Rock Drilling Bullets) is a rocket weapon which is attached to the Satsuma submarine and loaded in the Taihos.
After an Earthquake on Mount Myoko caused a massive rockfall, two D-03 Missiles were fired into the mass of rock from the cannon of a Taiho, in an effort to facilitate the search for survivors. The Taiho then entered the tunnels created by the missile, where the crew found a single survivor. They then caught a glimpse of Baragon digging his way through the hillside, being responsible for the earlier tremors.
Much later, the D-03 Missile was used once more in an attempt to drill into Godzilla's body, having been fired from a fleet of Taihos. Despite causing minor injury, the missiles failed to break through Godzilla's thick hide, and Godzilla destroyed the fleets of infantry and the missile launchers in response.
During the final battle in Tokyo Bay, The Satsuma is launched with the missiles in its payload. After Godzilla defeated King Ghidorah, the guardian beast's energy merged with that of Mothra and Baragon and acted to slow the nuclear behemoth down, causing him to sink beneath the waves. Taizo, the sub's captain, pilots the Satsuma towards Godzilla, but Godzilla eats the Satsuma without a second thought. As Taizo loses hope, Yuri's spirit gives him the will to continue, and he fires the missile at Godzilla's throat, cutting a hole straight through it from the inside out. As the Satsuma escapes through the hole, Godzilla tries to blast the submarine with his atomic breath, but the beam simply escapes through his gaping wound. Eventually, the pressure in Godzilla's body rises to the point that he violently explodes, reducing his body to just his beating heart.
===Dimension Tide===
The Dimension Tide (ディメンション・タイド Dimenshon・Taido?) is an orbital weapon satellite capable of firing a miniature black hole.
The Dimension Tide was introduced alongside the G-Graspers' main battle craft, the GX-813 Griffon as a weapon which could hopefully deal with Godzilla for good by shooting miniature Black Holes at him. The first test of the weapon seemed perfect, but the black hole left a worm hole that allowed a Meganula to come though. The Meganula, from the Carboniferous period, left an egg containing many Meganulon, was allowed to enter the present day. Nevertheless, the Dimension Tide was completed, and launched into a Geostationary orbit.
Later, the Griffon and a fleet of Mitsubishi F-15Js lured Godzilla to the tiny island of Kiganjima, and the Dimension Tide was ready to fire again! The weapon shot a Black Hole at Godzilla, but was unsuccessful as the singularity only created a hole in the ground from which Godzilla quickly pulled himself out of. The Dimension Tide then begun to charge for the next attack.
However, when Megaguirus flew into the upper atmosphere, the extreme ultrasonic waves being emitted from her wings altered the Dimension Tide's orbit, causing it to begin to fall out of the sky. After Godzilla defeated the insectoid queen, the G-Graspers tried one last attempt at getting the the weapon to work before it hit the earth, and was destroyed for good. Major Kiriko aboard Griffon nose-dived the craft towards Godzilla. Luckily, she ejected herself out of the craft before it hits Godzilla, creating a giant explosion. The Dimension Tide now had a target to lock onto, and fired again. Godzilla countered by firing his atomic breath at the black hole, causing a huge explosion. After the smoke cleared, Godzilla was nowhere to be seen, and the G-Graspers appeared victorious.
However, over the next few days, tremors began to take place under Tokyo. The G-Graspers began to consider the possibility that Godzilla had managed to escape from the black hole. This fear was confirmed when a huge tremor rocked the city and a familiar roar could be heard.
===Vulture===
The Vulture (ハゲタカ Hagetaka?) is a Japanese missile created by Shochiku.
The Vulture was created by the Japanese military to destroy Guilala at point-blank range. But, Guilala ended up swallowing the missile, inflicting no damage to the monster.
==Transports==
===AAB Gamma===
The AAB Gamma (AAB ガンマ AAB Ganma?) is an exploration ship created by Shochiku.
After numerous reports of UFOs patrolling the interplanetary space near Earth, the AAB Gamma was launched by the Japanese government to look for them. Once in space, the AAB Gamma searched the areas where sightings had been reported, and eventually discovered a single UFO. The UFO began coating the AAB Gamma in an unusual substance that looked like spores, before swiftly fleeing. With its mission considered complete, the AAB Gamma was ordered to return to Earth. Although most of the spores burnt off when the AAB Gamma re-entered the atmosphere, one remained, and developed into the space kaiju Guilala.
===AAC-Beta===
The AAC-Beta (AAC-ベータ AAC-Bēta?) is a Chinese Mars probe created by Shochiku.
The AAC-Beta was a Chinese Mars probe which carried the spore of the monster, Guilala. The probe later crash landed on Earth, bringing the monster along with it.

Setting

In the 21st century, extensive warfare, nuclear testing and careless science had mutated or awakened great beasts of all shapes and sizes.[1] During that period, the frequent occurrence of enormous monsters had become commonplace, and thus, the Earth Defense Force (known in short as the EDF) was established by the Japanese government. The sole purpose of the force was to combat the monsters and hopefully restore peace to the world by eliminating the kaiju. During the worldwide wave of monsters, mutant humans with superhuman strength and extraordinary physical capabilities were discovered whose origins or mutations were not yet understood. The EDF realized the potential and effectiveness of the mutants as super soldiers, and established a subdivision known as the M-Organization. Utilizing the mutants' handy physical feats and superior piloting skills, along with the military's best war machines, the threat was slowly subdued and the monsters were slowly, but surely, defeated.

Many years earlier in the mid-20th century, the greatest enemy that the EDF faced, Godzilla, first appeared and frequently attacked Japan in the 1960s during the great monster wars. While they succeeded in defeating all of the other monsters, Godzilla was the only one remaining and continually threatened mankind. One year, the EDF's best battleship—the Gotengo—was battling Godzilla deep in Antarctica. It was only with the help of a large earthquake that the crew of the Gotengo was able to finally triumph against Godzilla. The earthquake had caused the ground to split and cave-in beneath Godzilla, causing him to fall into a seemingly bottomless pit. This was followed immediately by an avalanche of ice and rock caused by missiles fired from the Gotengo that buried Godzilla and imprisoned him in an icy tomb, restoring peace to the world.

Decades later, in the near future of the 21st century, peace had been recognized worldwide with the exception of very rare monster attacks. The EDF had easily defeated such threats, and the monster-scare had become a thing of the past. During this time a mysterious mummified monster was found off the coast of Hokkaido and was being suspended by large support cables in the EDF warehouse/hangar and being researched. It was calculated at being 12,000 years old and composed of organic and machine tissue, making it a cyborg. It was also discovered that the monster's D.N.A. contains M Base, which was also found in Earth's mutant soldiers, suggesting a relationship. The two Shobijin fairies reveal the creature's name to be Gigan, an evil monster from space that was sent to wipe out life on Earth, but was subdued by Mothra. They give the mutant, Shinichi Ozaki, a small sword, saying he has an important destiny and that he must choose his fate.

Suddenly a large group of monsters appear simultaneously and attack major cities all over the world. The EDF is dispatched and valiantly attempts to defeat the monsters. Rodan attacks New York City, Zilla attacks Sydney, Anguirus attacks Shanghai, King Caesar attacks Okinawa, Kamacuras attacks Paris, Kumonga attacks Phoenix, Arizona, and Ebirah attacks Tokai.

During the international devastation, an alien race known as the Xiliens appears and captures the monsters. After which they proposed a peaceful union with mankind. They revealed that an asteroid called Gorath was going to collide with Earth unless all weapons were aimed at it. The Secretary, who was considered dead when Rodan attacked his plane, began to pursue a new future with the Xiliens, claiming that the United Nations would become the Space Nations. However, distrust of the Xiliens began to arise. When the Secretary was attacked during an attempted assassination, his blood was analyzed and soon found to not be human. Worse, the image of Gorath displayed by the Xiliens turned out to be nothing more than a hologram. Shinichi feared that the Xiliens were plotting a takeover of Earth, and that many of their leaders could have been compromised. He could only trust one man, Captain Gordon, the one who originally fired the missiles that contained Godzilla.

Doctor Miyuki Otanashi went looking through the files of the Secretary, but was caught by the EDF leader. However, Gordon came in at the last moment and shot the EDF leader, revealing the leader to be an impostor. They brought the corpse of the imposter to the broadcast studio, where the Xiliens were being interviewed on live television. The Secretary was shot, revealing him to also be an imposter. The second-in-command of the Xiliens, known as the Controller, shot his commander, tired of the slow plans of a peaceful takeover. Using his species' control over M-base, he takes control of the mutants, excluding Shinichi, and releases the monsters to resume their attacks on the cities. He also sent out an army of small fighter ships to assist in leveling and decimating human civilization. M-Unit commander Muasaka held off his former command while the others escaped. However, their escape is hindered by Kazama, a fellow mutant, who Shinichi is able to subdue.

In a secret hanger, the Gotengo crew set out on a risky, last resort plan to defeat the Xiliens by releasing Godzilla from Area G. The Controller unleashes Gigan to follow them. They succeed in releasing Godzilla, who battles with Gigan and defeats him by decapitation. Godzilla, thinking he was still battling with the Gotengo, chases after the ship. Godzilla is first led to Sydney, where he defeats Zilla. He then proceeds to defeat Kumonga, in New Guinea, Kamacuras in Manazuru, Anguirus, King Caesar and Rodan next to Mount Fuji, and finally Ebirah and Hedorah in Tokyo Bay. He is finally brought to the Xilien mother-ship. The Gotengo attempts to destroy the mother-ship, but its shields are too strong and the Gotengo is soon kept busy with fighter ships. Kazama takes a fighter and manages to enter the mother-ship, destroying the generator, which allows the Gotengo to drill through to the core of the ship and attempt to fire the Maser. However, the Xiliens teleport on board and kill all of the non-essential crew-members, bringing Shinchi, Miyuki, Gordon and pilot Akiko Namikawa to the Controller. The Controller reveals that the Xilians want the mitochondria in human cells to survive and were simply demolishing civilization to show humanity its place as "cattle." He also reveals that he and Shinichi are Kaiser, a fusion of mutant and human DNA, which is what allowed Shinichi to avoid his control. However, the Controller manages to control Shinichi until he is stopped by Miyuki, who uses the Shobijin's sword to free him. The Secretary of Defense and the EDF leader are revealed to be alive, having somehow escaped imprisonment. As the humans make their escape, Shinichi battles the Controller, ultimately winning. Going insane, the Controller self-destructs the mother-ship, intent on taking everyone down with him. Shinichi is able to board the Gotengo just as the mother-ship is destroyed.

Godzilla battles a new, final foe known as Monster X, while Mothra battles a rebuilt Gigan. Gigan perishes as Mothra turns the cyborg's own power against him, just as the remaining crew are victorious. Godzilla is still fighting Monster X, who soon transforms into his true form, Keizer Ghidorah, who defeats Godzilla and starts to drain his life force. Shinichi transfers his "Kaiser energy" to Godzilla and restores his strength and empowers him. Godzilla destroys two of Keizer Ghidorah's heads and throws him around the ruins of Tokyo. Finally, Godzilla hurls Keizer Ghidorah into the air and fires his red spiral atomic breath, which pushes Keizer Ghidorah into outer space, where he explodes. Godzilla then continues his battle against the Gotengo, using his atomic breath against the ship, forcing it to crash. Godzilla is about to attack the survivors of the Gotengo, but his son, Minilla, manages to calm Godzilla down and convinces him to leave and forgive mankind for their sins. Together, Godzilla and Minilla leave a ruined Tokyo and Godzilla lets out one final roar to commemorate 50 years of destruction.

Earth Defense Force

Earth Defense Force Emblems.

The Earth Defense Force (地球防衛軍 'Chikyū Bōeigun'?), A.K.A. Global Defense Force, is a military organization formed by the United Nations to protect humanity from monster activity. At some point in the 20th Century, Godzilla had traveled to Antarctica after wiping out cities in Japan and other countries along the East Asian coastline. The Gotengo pursued him, and engaged him in battle on an ice sheet along with a battalion of Maser Cannons.

Godzilla fought viciously and nearly destroyed the ship as it crashed down and he prepared to crush it, but fell into a crevasse after the Gotengo blasted the ice sheet with its deck cannons, collapsing a mountain onto Godzilla and trapping him.

Many years later, the Gotengo was heavily refurbished by the Earth Defense Force and was dubbed the New Gotengo (新轟天号 Shin Gōtengō?). The ship was now commanded by Douglas Gordon, who had fired the missiles on board the Gotengo that successfully trapped Godzilla years ago. It was now also accompanied by three sister ships, the Eclair, the Karyu and the Rumbling. Captain Gordon commanded the Gotengo in a mission against Manda in the English Channel. Although Manda was successfully killed, the Gotengo was badly damaged and Gordon was court-martialed.

Xiliens

Xiliens invaded the Earth, masking their true intentions with peaceful purposes. They had the ability to control any creature with a certain DNA compound called M-Base, a compound which both the mutant soldiers of M-Force and they can also alter DNA so they can control other creature like the kaiju. They used their control of M-Base to send the monsters on rampages across the globe - Rodan in New York City, Anguirus in Shanghai, Kamacuras in Paris, Zilla in Sydney, King Caesar in Okinawa, Kumonga in Arizona, and Ebirah in Tokai. After allowing them to cause enough damage to their locations, the Xiliens teleported the monsters away, telling the people of the Earth that they rescued them, and want only peace between their planets (Earth and Planet X). They warned humanity of a small run-away planet known as Gorath, saying that unless we aimed all our firepower at it, Gorath would collide with the Earth.

Tension among the Xiliens' ranks soon rose, however. While the leader of the Xiliens, the Controller, wanted to take over the planet through as peaceful means as possible, his second-in-command, X, believed in their superior firepower and technology and wanted to return the monsters to Earth. It was soon discovered that the Xiliens were replacing high political leaders with Xilien clones and that Gorath was not actually going to destroy the Earth. The Xiliens were exposed on national television and with their plan revealed, X shot and killed the Controller, taking command of the invasion from that point on. He explained that the reason for their invasion was to use mankind as a food source - the Xiliens needed mankind's mitochondria to survive. Upon returning to the Mothership, he returned the monsters to Earth, and this time they were assisted by swarms of Xilien fighters. He also activated the Xiliens' ancient weapon - a cyborg kaiju named Gigan.

When Godzilla was awoken to battle the Xilien army of monsters, X was unfamiliar with the beast, and sent the monsters to defeat him. One by one, Gigan, Zilla, Kumonga, and Kamacuras all fell, and even a team attack by Rodan, Anguirus, and King Caesar failed to stop Godzilla. Upon landing in Tokyo, Godzilla simultaneously obliterated Ebirah and Hedorah (Hedorah's location prior to this scene is a mystery, as he is not seen at any other time in the film, leading to the belief he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, Hedorah could merely have been making a cameo appearance). Enraged, X sent a secret, last monster, Monster X, into battle via Gorath, in which he was contained. The monster was much more powerful than the previous monsters and overpowered Godzilla numerous times. When Mothra (whom X was also unfamiliar with) arrived in Tokyo, a repaired and upgraded Gigan was sent to destroy her. Monster X and Gigan briefly double-teamed Godzilla before Gigan was destroyed by a kamikaze attack from Mothra. As the two monsters fought, X revealed to the heroes that mutants were the product of interbreeding between humans and Xiliens in the past. He also revealed that he was a Kaiser, an extremely rare type of mutant who is granted super powers due to the fusion of M-base and human DNA. Kaisers are able to control any other life-form by telepathic means if that organism has M-base. Shinichi Ozaki, one of the mutant soldiers, was also a Kaiser, and defeated X in battle. Moments before the Xilien Mothership came crashing down around him, X is seen screaming in anger and agony among the explosions, due to his defeat, after which the Gotengo destroys the ship (and X). Scenes change back to Monster X and Godzilla, who continue to rage in their war for ultimate defeat of the other. After they are both blown away by a massive conflagration when their energy beams collide, Monster X transforms into a hideous monstrosity known as Keizer Ghidorah. For a while, Ghidorah is able to take down Godzilla, and even starts to kill him by draining his life-force. But Ozaki realizes what to do, and transfers his Kaiser energy to Godzilla. Godzilla proceeds to turn the tables on Keizer Ghidorah, tossing him around and then hurling him high into the atmosphere and firing his atomic spiral ray, making Keizer Ghidorah explode.

The Xilien Mothership is immense, and is made of four parts: one massive orb-body, and three claw-shaped ships. These "claw ships" can travel on their own, and have the ability to teleport targets easily. Where the monsters were stored once they were teleported out of their designated cities is unknown, but it was presumably within the main body. The Mothership is protected by a powerful force-field, the generator for which is in the core of the ship itself. The Mothership also houses hundreds of fighters.

Kaiju

Kaiju (Japanese: 怪獣, Hepburn: Kaijū, lit. 'Strange Beast') is a Japanese genre of films and television featuring giant monsters. The term kaiju can refer to the giant monsters themselves, which are usually depicted attacking major cities and engaging the military, or other kaiju.

Daikaiju

Daikaijū (大怪獣) literally translates as "giant kaiju" or "great kaiju". This hyperbolic term was used to denote greatness of the subject kaiju; the prefix dai- emphasizing great size, power, and/or status. The first known appearance of the term daikaiju in the 20th Century was in the publicity materials for the original 1954 release of Godzilla. Specifically, in the subtitle on the original movie poster, Suibaku Daikaiju Eiga (水爆大怪獣映画), lit. "H-Bomb Giant Monster Movie" (in proper English, "The Giant H-Bomb Monster Movie").

Ghidorah

Technology

Technology in the World of Kaiju has been developed mostly to deal with and counter the appearance of the DaiKaiju. The general level of technology is similar enough to Earth of the 21st Century in most Worlds. However, weapons and super military vehicles have been created to counter the threat of immense, devastating Kaiju.

Weapons

Oxygen Destroyer

D-03 Missile

Dimension Tide

Vulture

The Vulture (ハゲタカ Hagetaka?) is a Japanese missile created by Shochiku.

The Vulture was created by the Japanese military to destroy Guilala at point-blank range. But, Guilala ended up swallowing the missile, inflicting no damage to the monster.

Transports

AAB Gamma

AAC-Beta

The AAC-Beta (AAC-ベータ AAC-Bēta?) is a Chinese Mars probe created by Shochiku.

The AAC-Beta was a Chinese Mars probe which carried the spore of the monster, Guilala. The probe later crash landed on Earth, bringing the monster along with it.
