Universal Century World

The Universal Century, named after humanity's first migration to the stars, aboard colonies called 'Sides', has a near 100 year history, and its development is overseen by the political and military ruling body, the Earth Federation. The Spacenoid Government, called the Principality of Zeon, has several Sides under its flag as well, and a tentative peace between both faction has been forged through almost 25 years of conflict.

Earth Federation.

The Federation is a global government that was formed by a 'rich mans' club' of wealthy nations. No individual nations are mentioned or continue to exist. Places are mentioned by what landmass or region they are in, such as New York City (or New Yark, according to on-screen text) and Odessa are mentioned to be located in North America and Central Asia, not the United States or Ukraine. While Japan, Australia, and Ireland are mentioned, these names refer to the landmasses and not the former countries. The only exception to this is the language and nationality of characters, which can be interpreted to be based on their predecessors' former homeland before emigrating to the space colonies.

Cyber-Newtypes

Cyber Newtypes receive various physical and mental enhancements, including organ transplants, biotechnological modifications, and chemicals that increase their reaction speed and radiation resistance. They are also subjected to extensive hypnotic conditioning, in which their personalities and memories are manipulated to make them into more effective soldiers. However, this process has the unfortunate side effect of rendering the Cyber Newtypes mentally unstable, with some even having personality disorders.

Moore Brotherhood.

Formed during the One Year War by the survivors of Zeon attacks on Side 4 Moore, the group's main objective is to recover their destroyed homeland from the Living Dead Division. However, the Federation cares nothing about this goal and only views them as expendable soldiers. The Moore Brotherhood fleet attempting to reclaim the Thunderbolt Sector was commanded by a ship called the Beehive, which appeared to have been a heavily modified Columbus-class, while the headquarters, located elsewhere, was responsible for providing reinforcements and funding the development of mobile suits. During the battle with Zeon's Living Dead Division, the Moore Brotherhood suffered heavy casualties. However, the situation began to turn when it received the FA-78 Full Armor Gundam.

Phantom Sweep Corps.

Resenting their loss in the One Year War, remnants from the Principality of Zeon army hiding in various parts of the Earth are carrying guerrilla attacks around world against the Earth Federation. Task Force Alpha, the 110th Combat Company is an Earth Federation Forces unit introduced in the wake of the Gryps Conflict. It is an expeditionary force sent to deal with the uprising led by the New Desides rebels at the asteroid base Pezun in U.C. 0088. The team is composed of Federal Forces, AEUG and Karaba veterans.

Londo Bell.

Londo Bell was established on March 21, U.C.0090, after the First Neo Zeon War, and was tasked with investigating and fighting anti-Earth Federation activities. Its headquarters were located in Londenion in Side 1, and among the organization's ranks were former AEUG and Karaba members. Londo Bell was first commanded by Bright Noa, with its mobile suit combat squads led by ace pilot Amuro Ray. In the event of a major insurgency such as a Zeon uprising, Londo Bell would respond as the tip of the Federation's spear.

Remember the Titans.

The Titans were an elite counter-insurgency group formed by the Federation Council in response to the events of Operation Stardust in 0083, where the Federation lost the large part of its fleet to a nuclear attack perpetrated by Zeon loyalists. On January 29, U.C. 0088, A group of junior officers in the Titans Mobile Suit Instructor Corps stationed at the remote asteroid Pezun near Side 2 (L4) stage a rebellion led by Brave Cod against the AEUG allied command of the facility in order to further their own ambitions. In response to this action, the Earth Federation government forms Task Force Alpha, a small force of EFSF, AEUG, and Karaba veterans in order to deal with this issue. In order to assist the task force, the Federation assigned the MSA-0011 S Gundam to the task force to complete the operation before the rebellion begins to spread to other locations.

The Anti-Earth Union Group (エゥーゴ) (also known as the AEUG) is an anti-authoritarian faction of the Universal Century World. It was a resistance movement formed to fight the authoritarian Titans of space. The term "anti-Earth" is actually a misnomer; the AEUG was itself a political faction within the Earth Federation, but more "anti-Earth elitist" than anti-Federation government. Throughout the Gryps Conflict, the AEUG attempted to wrestle the Federation government's support away from the Titans. The AEUG also had a sister organization on Earth, Karaba, with the same goals.
After the First Neo-Zeon War, the AEUG officially disbands, with most of its members going on to form the Federation's Londo Bell task force.

Republic of Zeon

Republic of Zeon.

Following the One Year War, the Republic of Zeon was created with a pro-Earth Federation government led by Darcia Bakharov. Although regarded by some as a Federation puppet, the Republic had been granted a degree of autonomy. However, the Federation planned to dissolve the Republic by U.C. 0100, which would cause the name of Zeon and his Newtype theory to fade into obscurity. The Neo Zeon movement, known as "the Sleeves", led by Full Frontal continued to fight for Spacenoid independence. When the Vist Foundation offered them Laplace's Box, an enigmatic object that had the power to topple the Federation government, Frontal intended to use it as a time saver to forestall the dissolution of the Republic so it could help in the formation of the Side Co-Prosperity Sphere, which would boycott the Earth, forcing mass space migration and causing the Federation government to collapse. However, following the defeat of the Sleeves in the Third Neo Zeon War, the Republic of Zeon retired their independence in U.C. 0100 and was folded back into the Earth Federation.

Garancieres Team

A space freighter belonging to the Sleeves. The Garencieres can carry four mobile suits, and it has the ability to enter the atmosphere and fly under gravity as well as enter orbit under its own power, operating as a means of transport between Earth and space. It is more or less unarmed, relying on its carried mobile suits for self-defense. Its captain is Suberoa Zinnerman. Disguised as a civilian transport ship, the Garencieres visits the space colony Industrial 7 to carry out a special mission to retrieve the mysterious Laplace's Box. Unbeknownst to them, Princess Mineva Lao Zabi stole aboard, hoping to reach Cardeas Vist before they could. En route, the Garencieres is tailed by Federation Clop-class cruiser, which launched three Jegans to intercept. Marida Cruz sortied in her NZ-666 Kshatriya to deal with the Jegans while the Garcencieres outran the more powerful Federation vessel.

Chimera Corps

Chimera Corps.

The Chimera Corps (a.k.a Ace Corps) is a group of ace pilots hand-picked by Kycilia Zabi of the Principality of Zeon. Not much is known about the Corps' early history, and even the date at which they were founded is unknown. It is debated to have been either four weeks before the end of the war, or sometime during or after the Battle of Solomon. What is known is that the unit was founded by Kycilia, who was also responsible for establishing the covert-ops Midnight Fenrir team and Char Aznable's 300th Independent Corps for Newtypes. Despite their high status, the Chimera Corps was not deployed very often, possibly due to the Federation advancing on A Baoa Qu. The battalion was largely broken into four units: the mother ship and support ships formed one fleet; ace pilots were stationed at the center, and additional fleet escorts served as reserves; Finally, the engineering support unit "Hydra".

Invisible Knights

In U.C.0081, rejecting their narrow defeat in the One Year War, the surviving forces of the old Principality of Zeon hoist up a beacon of resistance throughout the Earth Sphere. Among them exists a special squad called the "Invisible Knights", which other remaining forces cooperate closely with in the largest covert operation, "The Wrath of Varuna", devised by Otto Eichmann during the war. They fight for the restoration of the rights of Spacenoids using guerrilla tactics and clashing repeatedly with the Earth Federation Forces' Phantom Sweep Corps.

Midnight Fenrir Corps

Midnight Fenrir Corps.

The Midnight Fenrir MS team was officially formed on January 31, U.C. 0079 by Kycilia Zabi and was operational throughout the entire One Year War. This team participated in the capture of the California Base during the 2nd Earth Invasion Plan. Lt. Gerhart Schmitzer was a mobile suit veteran during the first stage of the One Year War, the One Week Battle back in January. At the end of the One Week Battle, Lt. Schmitzer was badly wounded, and forced into retirement. This was due to Operation British, the operation that would force a space colony, into the Earth's orbit for a collision course to South America, where the Earth Federation's top forces were, Jaburo base. The injuries were extensive, but hope was on the horizon. Lt. Schmitzer approached Kycilia Zabi during the Antarctic Treaty cease-fire, He proposed the formation of a small Earth-bound covert-operations unit. Kycilia Zabi immediately approved, and formed an elite mobile suit unit onto the front lines, to be named the Midnight Fenrir Corps. Since Lt. Schmitzer was fluent in battle experience, he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and made Commander/Mission director of the Fenrir Corps.

Mars Zeon - ReZeon

RE-Boot of Zeon - Alicia Zabi.

ReZeon is a faction that are the remnants of the first Neo Zeon who fled to Mars after the First Neo Zeon War. The girls built up their power by taking in Titans remnants which left the Earth Sphere following the end of the Gryps conflict. Alicia strives toward a revival of an ideal Zeon nation on Mars. Yet within the ReZeon, a sect was secretly planning a return to the Earth Sphere. ReZeon, however, was not a monolith. Although the remnants strength was firmly tied to Alicia Zabi as a leader, the Titan deserters they linked up with afterward held discontent for being a subordinate to Zeon. In addition to this, the pent-up feelings of some citizens forced to live a severe lifestyle on Mars band together and a riot breaks out in an old town. However, this riot was merely the beginning of a much bigger case involving the Inle that shook the Earth Sphere.
The primary base of operations of Mars was founded in the Martian volcano, Mt. Olympus. Mars is home to multiple cities, bases, and factories which are connected by underground caverns, some of which are underwater and require marine type mobile suits and submarines to gain access to.
The distinct red and black color scheme of the Alicia Guard Mobile Suits has several meanings. The red color stands for the color of Mars, the home of ReZeon. It also symbolizes the Zeon spirit as a burning flame, from the lava of the Mt. Olympus volcano. A mobile suit with this color scheme signifies a pledge to ReZeon's leader, Alicia Zabi, and to protect their Martian home.

Mars Zeon: The Oldsmobile Army

Zeon Mars.

The Mars Zeon are a group of Principality of Zeon army remnants who fled to Mars, rather than to Axis, after the One Year War. The Mars Zeons were also nicknamed the Oldsmobile Army by the Federation, because of their use of mobile suits of old-style appearances. Enduring on their own for a long time, the Mars Zeon was later reinforced by remnants of the second Neo Zeon movement. Using the former Neo Zeon members' AMS-119 Geara Doga mobile suits, The Mars Zeon were able to produce mobile suits, outwardly similar to the Principality's most famous designs, but possessing performance superior to the Geara Doga.

The Second Neo Zeon Movement fell into isolation for two years under the leadership of Full Frontal, a Cyber Newtype altered to look like the missing in action Char Aznable. They were revived in U.C. 0096 and nicknamed "The Sleeves" by Federation Forces because of the ornate sleeve designs on their mobile suits. The organization has no plans for further production since obtaining their MS from Anaheim Electronics three years ago, making many of their machines one-off designs. Therefore, it is not recognized as a legitimate military organization by the Federation, leading them to be regarded as a terrorist organization. It has a considerably large force with numerous Zeon sympathizers hiding on Earth. It has no formal relations with the Republic of Zeon government, however, it is linked with government officials and behind the scenes activities associated with a certain right-wing political organization of the Republic. They began their revival plan by receiving the "Laplace's Box" from the Vist Foundation, a mysterious object said to be the only thing that could topple the Earth Federation. With the support of outside interference, they recieved access to genetic materials of Zeon aces from the past.

Principality of Zeon

Principality of Zeon Flag.

When Zeon Zum Deikun, the leader of the Republic, became gravely ill in UC 0068, he mentioned only one name on his deathbed: "Degwin Zabi." The people of Side 3 took this to mean that Deikun was naming Degwin to succeed him as leader of the Republic in that year. After being appointed as the leader of the Republic of Zeon, Degwin Zabi adopted the title of Sodo, meaning "Lord," and was referred to from them on as Degwin Sodo Zabi. Seizing control of the government, Degwin maintained the only way for the colonies to be independent of the Earth Federation was for the Principality to fight (though in reality, Side 3 was already independent of Earth at that time). To this end, Degwin appointed his children into military and political offices and pushed for rapid development of military technology.
Gihren Zabi, the eldest of the Zabi children, remained at his father's side as his aide, achieving Admiral's rank and eventually became the Supreme Commander of the Zeon Armed Forces in place of his father. Dozle Zabi, the second eldest son of the Zabi family, became Vice-Admiral and the Commander of the Space Attack Force, responsible for overseeing fleet movements within the Principality and for securing territory. Kycilia Zabi, a Rear Admiral, shared command of the Zeon Space Attack Force with her brother Dozle, which led to conflicts between the two as she operated from the lunar city of Granada. Garma Zabi, the youngest of the Zabi family, was placed in command of the Zeon Earth Attack Force.
With the backing of the Principality of Zeon's new leadership, technological breakthroughs were made in many fields of research. One of the largest developments was that of mobile suit technology, which initially intended for colony construction found military applications. Research by Doctor Minovsky led to the discovery of the Minovsky Particle and the Minovsky Particle Effect, which allowed for the development of further technology, such as the Minovsky Craft System. Supported by Kycilia Zabi, research into the growing phenomenon led to the classification and discovery of Newtypes, and with it her support of the development of Newtype-based military units. Negotiations with the Earth Federation finally broke down in UC 0079, leading to the Principality of Zeon (re)declaring its independence from the Earth Federation and at the same time declaring war on the Federation.

The Zabi family (collectively known as the Zabis) was a Spacenoid family originating from Side 3 whose members played influential roles in the Universal Century from at least the late 0050s (when Degwin Sodo Zabi aligned himself with Zeon Zum Deikun) to the middle 0090s (when Mineva Lao Zabi uncovered Laplace's Box). This family was most noted for once being the founding royal family of the Principality of Zeon, and is considered infamous by many people of the Earth Sphere for the ruthless and despotic actions that were chosen by the family members when in power before and during the One Year War.

Space Attack Force

The Space Attack Force is a faction in the Universal Century. One of the three principal branches of the Principality of Zeon's military, it was commanded by Vice Admiral Dozle Zabi. The Space Attack Force was made up of six battle fleets, which provide the bulk of the Principality's space power. Dozle's headquarters were at the asteroid fortress Solomon, which served as a frontline base for the Space Attack Force. Early in the conflict the Space Attack Force emphasized traditional tactics and weapons over "newfangled gimmicks" like mobile suits. This began to shift after the One Week Battle in which the need for mobile suits was proven and the Space Attack Force formed numerous mobile suit squadrons.

Officially known as the Mobile Assault Force 7th Division 1st Mobile Suit Battalion Headquarters attached Special Duties Squad, the history of the Black Tri-Stars began in May, U.C. 0076, when then-Colonel Kycilia Zabi of the Republic of Zeon military formed the Mobile Training Battalion, an experimental unit created to establish mobile suit tactics.[1][2] Then-Sergeant Gaia, Sergeant Major Ortega, and then-Sergeant Major Mash were all members of the Mobile Training Battalion 2nd Squadron D Squad, piloting MS-05B Zaku I painted in dark sea blue, making them some of Zeon's earliest mobile suit pilots. At this point, they were not yet on the same team.

Cyclops Team

The "Cyclops Team" was the nickname for a Zeon special operations unit consisting of around twelve members, all of which were trained in a variety of skills, including mobile suit piloting and espionage, and able to adapt to a wide variety of situations. In March, U.C. 0079, the Cyclops Team departed from Granada with the 1st Terrestrial Mobile Division and participated in the First Landing Operation, making landfall at Europe. They acted as vanguard to the main force, disrupting communications, capturing bridges, and throwing the Earth Federation Forces into chaos. However, due to the harshness of their missions, the rate of attrition was high.

Southern Cross Corps

Southern Cross Corps.

A mobile suit unit of the Zeon army once led by Cucuruz Doan. After Doan's departure, Egba Atler took over the command of the unit, and it was assigned to the Moroccan front. In Morocco, the unit is nicknamed the "Brown Southern Cross" because of its successes, to the extent that it is said to be able to support the front line with a single unit. As the name suggests, the unit emblem is based on the Southern Cross constellation, with five stars arranged around a central cross. The unit emblem also serves as the personal mark of each member, and the position of the highlighted star is different for each member of the unit.

Axis Zeon

Axis Zeon.

Axis Zeon (or simply Axis) were remnant members of the Principality of Zeon who retreated to the giant asteroid base Axis, after the end of the One Year War. Axis Zeon is also known as the first Neo Zeon movement.
Co-developed by the Principality and the Lunar Industrial Federation in Universal Year 0072 as a waypoint for the Jupiter Energy Fleet, the Axis base was built under strict secrecy. Like A Baoa Qu and Solomon, it is built atop an asteroid, allowing it to serve as a mobile base. Unlike the other two bases, which were sent to the Earth sphere, Axis remained hidden in the asteroid belt during the One Year War.
At the end of the War, when the Principality became the Republic of Zeon and formally stepped down its offensive, nearly half of the remaining Zeon forces disobeyed orders and fled the Earth sphere. These Zeon loyalist, including Zabi family loyalist, regrouped at the Axis base, where they could rebuild and reorganize in secrecy. Even the great Char Aznable made Axis his new home.

Anaheim Electronics is known for its profit-oriented mindset - creating advanced mobile weapons for any faction that would be willing to pay, then selling the same technology to the former's enemy, and are often derogatorily referred to as the "Merchants of Death". During the rise of the oppressive Titans task-force, Anaheim funded the AEUG and gave it access to their technology and safe shelter as the Titans restricted their trading engagements, despite the Earth Federation Forces and the Titans being their primary customer. Later, the company would service contracts from the remnants of the Principality of Zeon such as Axis and Neo-Zeon.
