EXO Wars World
It was a golden age for all Mankind. Using the incredible exoskeletons called E-frames, we had successfully terraformed Venus and Mars, and were poised to move on to the outer planets. Suddenly, it all ended! We were pressed into a nightmarish war on a scale previously un-imagined. We were attacked by our own creations, the Neosapiens -- a race of artificially created humans. Lead by Phaeton, they had seized control of Venus, Earth and Mars.
History & Setting
The timeline is set in the years 2119–2121 AD, several decades after humanity ("Terrans") has expanded its presence beyond Earth, terraforming and colonizing Venus and Mars. These three planets are "the Homeworlds", the core first of the Terran interplanetary state and later of Neosapien Commonwealth. Not all Terrans are affiliated with the Homeworlds, however: the Pirate Clans, descendants of Terran criminals exiled to the Outer Planets who live off looted Homeworlds' space freighters, are a major independent faction in the show. The first episode opens with the Earth Congress dispatching the entire Exofleet, humanity's space-based military, to counter the Pirate threat.
With war with the Pirate Clans looming, an uprising begins among the Neosapiens, an artificial humanoid race coexisting with Terrans. In the back-story, the Neosapiens were used primarily as slaves during the colonization of Mars and Venus and therefore have been engineered to be physically stronger and better adapted to hostile environments than humans. Their mistreatment by Terrans led to the First Neosapien Revolt fifty years before the series' begin, which was mercilessly crushed but had brought some positive changes into their lives. Still not content with his fate, the Neosapien Governor of Mars, Phaeton, sets a new insurrection, codenamed "Operation [Neosapien] Destiny", in motion as soon as the Exofleet leaves to chase after the Pirate Clans. The absence of the Exofleet is also a part of Phaeton's plan as it enables the Neosapiens' capture of the Homeworlds without much effort.
Exo-Fleet

Exofleet is the overall unified military force of the Terran Homeworlds in the sci-fi animated television series ExoSquad. Prior to the start of the Second Neosapien War, Phaeton lured the ExoFleet, then consisting of six ExoCarriers and countless support vessels, away from the Homeworlds to fight the Pirate Clans. For some time, the ExoFleet was the only safe harbor for the Terrans. It is worth noting that with the onset of the war the dissolving of the Homeworld's Senate by the Neosapien conquers; that the fleet operated without any known civilian oversight.

Earth Resistance
The Earth resistance was intially comprised of several seperate resistance cells, the most prominent being Chicago and Austrailia, though there is known to have been a cell in Maine as well.
Initially each of these cells operated more or less independent of one another, each feeling that their respective leader knew the best way to win the war. After nearly a year under Neosapian rule, the Exo-fleet made contact with the various resistance leaders and convinced them that each group fighting its' own war against the Neosapians wouldn't bring an end to Phaeton's tyrannical rule. Sean Napier, being the loudest voice for cooperation with the Exo-fleet, was appointed at the leader of the Earth bound resistance groups with each cell leader reporting to him. While there continued to maverick operations in various cells, the coordination between them greatly increased after this point.

Venus Resistance
The Venusian Resistance (also later called the Venusian Resistance Force) against the Neosapien occupation of Venus was made up of the very few survivors of former farmers led by James Burns. The resistance was poorly equipped and disorganized when compared to the resistance cells on Earth. They lacked major heavy weapons and had very few E-frames. The resistance perferred method of transport were jetpacks that enabled them to traverse the desert and jungle terrain of Venus.
The major concern for the members of the Venus resistance was survial and the acquiring of food. The survivors of Venus, who were left after the intial conquest of Venus by Phaeton's regime, were brutally subjagated by Governor General Draconis. Draconis loathed the humans and his methods for dealing with them were to starve and work them to death. The humans that hid in caves and fought for survival initially hated and resented ExoFleet. When J.T. Marsh, Alec DeLeon and Marsala were captured by members of the resistance James Burn's initial thought was to trade the "(t)hree troopers...for three months' food." Only with the timely arrival of James' sister Nara Burns who was a member of Able Squad did the Venusian Resistance agree to work with the ExoFleet.

Neosapien Order

The Neosapiens were created by the Terrans sometime in 2040 to serve as slave laborers on Mars, as a part of their terraforming efforts there and on Venus. This also explains their appearance: the blue skin would make them easily visible on Mars and their well-muscled physique would make them very strong workers.
Nearly all of the Neosapiens were slaves in the Martian mines before the First Neosapien Revolt of 2069. Although they were granted increased rights following the revolts (including control of Mars), most Neosapiens still lived in virtual slavery. The original revolt was put down swiftly (and brutally) by Terran forces utilizing the first generation of E-frame technology. Following the rebellion, the Neosapiens were still forbidden from owning personal weapons, and could not hold high-profile positions in the military or civilian infrastructure as it is pointed out Neosapiens were forbidden from commanding ships. Notable examples of free Neosapiens were Marsala, the only Neosapien member of the Able Squad, and Phaeton, the Governor of Mars, as well as Phaeton's generals, Typhonus, Shiva, and Draconis. It was not until the Neosapien War that many of them gained their freedom and joined the Neosapien Commonwealth.

Pirate Clans
Decades ago, before the creation of the Neosapians, the Homeworlds used convicts for slave labor. As the human empire expanded into the outer planets, the convicts were used as miners in the harsh environments of the outer planets. They were promised freedom in exchange for their work. Many of them did not survive their sentences. With the creation of the Neosapians, the convicts were abandoned and left to fend for themselves. The few convicts that survived on the outer planets became a hearty breed of man. Stronger then regular humans and more aggressive, they continued to mine the moons around Saturn and soon began to build ships the material they mined. Then, the convicts attacked the very people who had left them to die on the outer planets. At this point, they became the Pirate clans of Saturn. Taking to the stars, the pirates moved further out in the solar system than any other human had and found a tenth planet. The pirates claimed the planet as their own and named it Chaos, which became their primary base and home port.
The Planet Chaos is unique in the solar system since it is composed mostly of dark matter, making it almost invisible. As the pirates mined the dark matter, they discovered how to harness its unique properties. Through their experimentation, they developed their most dangerous advantage, the cloaking device.
Pirates are tenacious and ingenious fighters. During the campaign to eliminate the pirates, the Exofleet got a first hand look at the fighting capabilities of the pirates. Even on their secondary bases around Saturn, they were well armed with the likes of orbital lasers and missile batteries. Their bases were located deep underground with the only way into them being narrow tunnels that are easily defended and hard to take.
The pirates utilized holographic technology in their defense strategies as well. The pirates entrenched their heavy weapon batteries in alcoves along the walls of tunnels and then camoflagued them using holograms. This arrangement set up a massive crossfire zone that Exofleet's Able Squad very nearly feel victim to.
The Pirates have apparently organized themselves into clans, with Jonas Simbacca as the current leader, although many aspire to the position. Both the ExoFleet and the Neosapien Order wished to have them as allies, and opinions within the clans were split. Typhonus' treachery caused them to side with the ExoFleet, and their decision was the turning point which eventually led to an ExoFleet victory in the war. Their contribution to the alliance (in return for the planet Mars once the war was concluded) were ships with cloaking ability (including Winfield's flagship, the Resolute II) and use of Port Chaos. Another term of the alliance was the allowance of the technology of e-frames. Prior to their alliance with Exofleet the Pirates lacked e-frames and utilized small fighters. After the battle against Typhonus' forces at Tethys the Pirate Clans acquired several NeoSapien e-frames and Exofleet officers, such as J.T. Marsh, began to train the pirates in their use. The Pirates would continue to train and use e-frames, repainted and given pirates symbols, throughout the war.

Trivia
- We're going to be using the most 'general' version of the setting and not the endgame.
- This franchise actually had the legal right to release Macross stuff and did. Isn't that messed up???
