World of Geass
| World of Geass | |
The World of Geass is an alternate universe where the Holy Britannian Empire, an international superpower, has expanded its influence over a large portion of the planet.
Setting
The World of Code Geass is mainly divided amongst three international superpowers: the Holy Britannian Empire (shown in red), the Chinese Federation (shown in light green), and the Europia United (shown in yellow). Australia (shown in light blue) has remained independent, and is not a major player in international politics, instead becoming a neutral state akin to real-world Switzerland. The Middle Eastern Federation (shown in darker green) is not a super-nation, however, it is believed to have warm relationships with the E.U. and also being fairly democratic. The MEF is conquered quite quickly by Britannia and they soon afterwords become an imperial colony area and is likely restored to international status with the removal of the area system by Emperor Lelouch.
On August 10, 2010 a.t.b., the Holy Empire of Britannia overpowered Japanese forces and conquered the country with their newly-developed robotic weapons, the Knightmare Frames, in less than a month. Japan lost its freedom, its rights, and even its name, becoming "Area 11" and its people "Elevens". The Elevens are forced to survive in ghettos while Britannians live in first-class settlements. Rebel elements persist, however, as pockets of Japanese resistance struggle against the Empire for the independence of Japan, partly due to Japan surrendering before all of its human resources would have been depleted in the struggle against the Britannian invasion. The Japanese resistance movement is supposedly unrivaled amongst such movements in other Areas.
Geass Order
The Geass Order, also translated as the Geass Cult or Geass Directorate, is a secretive group that studies and produces Geass users. Its last known location is a large underground city, also called the Geass Order, which is within the Chinese Federation territory. Before the assault instigated by the Black Knights, it was under the control of V.V., and so was presumably under Britannian influence. Origins of The Geass Directorate are unknown but since its former leader was C.C. in Code Geass Akito the Exiled, it is implied that its former headquarters was in E.U. The Geass Directorate plays a major role in Code Geass: Oz The Reflection due to its known members. Pluton members were stationed here due to V.V. spearheading their organization during the Assault on the Geass Order when they encountered Benio Akagi.
Though its location usually changes with each leader, it is currently located in an enormous underground cavern beneath Taklamakan Desert in the Chinese Federation. The Geass Order seems to be, for the most part, a fairly modern medium-sized city, complete with streetlights, roadways, ornate buildings, and even an underground train system. The location of the directorate may be the Desert Taklamakan Desert in our Xinjiang, which resembles the desert as seen in Code Geass (a huge erg). Moreover, when Lelouch talks in video communication to V.V, the terminal communication line briefly appears to be located to the south of a geographical entity that has the same administrative borders as Xinjiang, where is the Taklamakan desert. Another location of the Geass Directorate was said to be in E.U. territory despite C.C.'s departure during the member's escape from the Black Knight's assault. Most of the city is lit with an eerie purple glow that emanates from a Thought Elevator at the head of the city.
After the death of Shirley Fenette, an embittered Zero decides to launch an attack on the order as to destroy the existence of Geass as a whole. Crashing through the shallow roof of the cavern, the Black Knights, on Zero's orders, indiscriminately slaughter the city's unarmed inhabitants. While V.V. attempts to stave off the attack with the Siegfried, a group of hooded order members attempt to escape the city with essential Geass research in a bullet train. C.C., however, intervenes and destroys the train before it can exit the compound. Lelouch, pursuing the wounded (though immortal) V.V. to the Thought Elevator, in which the Emperor can be seen standing. After the Emperor and V.V. exchange a few words, Lelouch finds himself suddenly transported out of the city and onto the Sword of Akasha. Some of the order agents can be seen reporting to Charles zi Britannia after V.V's death implying he's their new leader.
After declaring war against Britannia, Charles made his appearance on television mocking Zero's foolish action up until now. Charles and the survivors of the Geass Order went to Kamine Island to perform their activities. The members were later slain by Suzaku before confronting Charles to gain revenge of what he did especially to Euphemia. Lelouch later attacked the emperor's forces and confronted him in order to stop his plan.
Code of Immortality
C.C. is an immortal "witch", neither suffering from age nor capable of being killed by conventional means. She has been shot fatally a number of times, been crushed by water pressure, burned at the stake, subjected to the guillotine, placed in an iron maiden, and stabbed by spears all of which she recovered from, but still suffers the pain. It is later revealed that her Immortality works like a biological back up system, where normally infinite body parts and sections are replaced via C's world. However the C's world no longer has its god, and what ever is left is all the back up she has, hence she could die eventually as she desired but that would take forever.
C.C. has the ability to bestow people with the power of Geass, which manifests differently in each person but generally carries the ability to affect the minds of those it is used on in some way. The Geass sigil glows on her forehead whenever she manifests this power, and she has a similar scar on her left breast. This scar correlates with the wound she received when she was attacked by the nun that gave her the Code. Her Code allows her to detect people who are connected to Geass and people who are important to them. It allows her to detect the location of her own contractors, even at a distance, and confirm who possesses a Geass power and who does not, regardless of whom granted it to them. She could detect that Nunnally was on Kamine Island because she is the center of Lelouch's life.
When in close proximity to another person, C.C can afflict them with a hallucinatory experience of chaotic and ominous images, pertaining in part to the memories of the target involved; the content varies with the afflicted. Physical contact, either directly or via a Knightmare Frame, may facilitate the process. Suzaku is shown images of his father (whom he murdered) as well as parts of C.C.'s memories, driving him into a panic. In another instance, Anya is shown images of Lelouch's childhood, causing her to freeze in wonder until contact was severed. It tends to activate involuntarily at various points, such as when Lelouch's Geass becomes permanently active. This effect is described as 'a merging of consciousness'.

Holy Britannian Empire
The Holy Britannian Empire is an imperial monarchy built from the ruins of the former British Empire and is the most prominent superpower within the world of Code Geass. Its homeland is based in North America, with additional territories spanning the western hemisphere, including the rest of the Americas, Greenland and Iceland. Britannia initially controls over one third of the world, and eventually conquered most of the world, with the rest joining UFN.
The Britannian Empire is concentrated in the Americas, holding both North and South America as its mainland.
Through various conquests, Britannia also controls New Zealand (Area 9), Japan (Area 11), the Philippines (Area 12), Saudi Arabia (Area 18), and in the novels a portion of the Indochina Peninsula (Area 10), Cambodia (Area 13). Notably, contrary to its name and origin, it does not control the British Isles, having lost them to Napoleon during the Napoleonic Wars.
Area 11 Japan is the source of over 70% of the world's total supply of sakuradite. Under the former administration of Prime Minister Genbu Kururugi and with the shadow support of the sakuradite mining industries, Japan oppressed and dominated other countries through economic control. Tensions between the Britannian Empire and Japan eventually developed into a diplomatic conflict and later open war. Following Japan's defeat, it was occupied by Britannian forces, and its name was changed to Area 11. As a means of cultural suppression, Britannia has eliminated the use of Kanji in proper names.

Knights of the Round
The Knights of the Round (ナイトオブラウンズ, Naito Obu Raunzu) or formerly known as the 12 Horsemen is a unit of twelve elite knights in the Holy Britannian Empire, each being assigned into the group by royalty and under direct command of the Emperor. The Knights of the Round date back to at least the 18th century, with the first Knight of One being Sir Richard Hector. Named after the Arthurian Knights of the Round Table, they operate outside the standard Britannian military and are given special privileges and authority. Many of the Knights of the Round are somewhat out of touch with the real world, Gino Weinberg even considering the Rounds to just be a gathering of eccentrics.
Aside from the Knight of One, there were no known distinctions in privileges between the numbers as they existed in the era; however, all Knights of the Round are given a higher rank than many nobles, behind the Imperial family. They are also given clearance to enter highly restricted areas such as Elball Villa, the only others allowed to be there without invitation being members of the royal family. Regardless of birth as a Britannian commoner or a Number, all members of the Knights of the Round are given a form of authority as seen with Suzaku who ordered Lloyd, an Earl, to give him the Lancelot Albion. All Rounds customarily address each other by their first names. During Lelouch's era, nobility is no longer awarded to the Knights of the Round and all of its' members were stripped of their nobility. However, all Knights of the Round were still given a high position of authority in the Britannian military and in political matters. A Round cannot be punished for his crimes by anyone other than the Britannian Emperor, as shown when Schneizel was unable to punish Suzaku for meeting with Lelouch behind his back.
The Knight of One may request governance of any colonial area of his choosing from the Emperor. After a person is captured for assaulting a knight, the knight can then decide the fate of the captured person, as seen after an attempt to assassinate Suzaku by an Eleven; he was asked for the severity of the punishment for the Eleven. Only eight of the twelve Knights have been revealed. Former members are later revealed to be the leaders of the Four Knights of Order in Euro Britannia in Code Geass Akito The Exiled. Former Knight of Two Beatrice Franks resigned her position to be Secretary to the Head Minister and the Special Duty General Inspector, which made her responsible for the defences surrounding the emperor and deployment of Knights of the Round. While the Knight of One leads the Rounds, in his absence, she commands them.
In the 1860s, the Rounds numbered thirteen, the last Knight of Thirteen known to be Barbaros. At some point prior to Charles zi Britannia's reign, the position was dissolved. A special title, the Knight of Zero, was created by Lelouch vi Britannia following his ascension to the throne. This title was specifically given to Suzaku Kururugi, who was thereby classified as a Knight of the Round above all others, giving him the highest authority as a Britannian Knight, even over the Knight of One. This name is also a double entendre, as the Knight of Zero suggests that he is Zero, or Lelouch's, knight, and he is higher than the Knight of One, which going by the numbering order, zero would be higher than one in this case.
In the Code Geass light novels it says that not all of the seats are filled, and that there has always been vacancies. Objectively, this is not ideal as since their creation, the Knight of the Rounds were intended to number twelve members. Even if all seats were filled only for the sake of showing off the Emperor’s strength, it would be without purpose. Both outside and within Britannia, that very act of having someone in the seats has a very real effect, as each is an embodiment of the emperor's will.

Knight of Ten's Grausam Valkyrie Squadron
The Valkyrie Squadron was an elite Britannian division under the command of the Knight of Ten, Luciano Bradley. It was comprised of 4 members, two of them being Marika Soresi, sister of the late Kewell Soresi, and Liliana Vergamon, her close friend. They are both between the age of 15 and 25 and were also once soldiers under Cornelia's command. Each piloted a Vincent Commander Model in a custom light pink/dark pink paint scheme. In the series, they served alongside Luciano at the Battle of Kagoshima, wherein they eliminated an entire Black Knights ambush force at Nagasaki, and at the Second Battle of Tokyo, once more at Luciano's side. In that battle, they were instrumental in capturing Zero, and almost succeeded in killing him in tandem with Luciano. However, Kallen Kozuki ultimately interfered in the stolen Guren S.E.I.T.E.N. Eight Elements, and struck all four members of the unit in one swift motion, with Liliana barely even realizing they had been hit, freeing Zero and killing the quartet in the process.

Glinda Knights

The Glinda Knightsare an anti-terrorism search-and-destroy armor unit within the Britannian Military. They were formed by the 88th Imperial Princess Marrybell mel Britannia soon after the end of the Black Rebellion in Area 11, and have been given the mission of suppressing terrorism throughout the controlled territories of the Holy Britannian Empire. All of its Knightmare pilots are ace pilots that utilize experimental frames that have been upgraded from regular frames. At some point, the unit is eventually expanded, and becomes the Great Glinda Knights, and has multiple divisions, such as the Airborne Knight Division led by Leonhardt, and the Heavy Artillery Unit led by Tink, and Marrybell's personal elite unit, the Riddel Knights, a group of 88 that use Vincents. After the battle with the Star of Madrid, Knight of Nine Nonette Enneagram also joins with them in order to keep tabs on Marrybell at the request of Kanon.
When Emperor Lelouch's begins his reign, Marrybell serves under him with the bulk of its forces, while Oldrin, Leanhardt, Sokkia, Tink, and those on Grandberry leave the military. They rescue Cornelia after she has been wounded by Schneizel, and later launch an attack on Damocles in alongside Peace Mark and other resistance forces, in conjunction with Cornelia and the Black Knights remnants plan to attack Lelouch during his planned public execution of those he captured during the Battle of Mt. Fuji.
During the epilogue, the Glinda Knights remain in service with Oldrin as their new leader, and Nonette, the former Knight of Nine, and her uncle Oiaguro as new members along with her friends, as well as several younger members in training as members for the United Federation of Nations.

Britannian Military

The Britannian Military includes all the Armed Services that are sworn to serve the Holy Empire of Britannia. It is shown to be one of the largest, most powerful, and most technologically advanced military forces in the world. The Britannian Military and all its subsequent branches are shown throughout the course of the series to be a highly formidable, technology advanced, and an utterly dedicated fighting force.
Much like the mainstream of Britannian society, it is shown to be extremely loyal and supportive to the governing of the Empire and its core values. Since it was founded on the basis of the olden Imperial British Military, concepts such as honor, chivalry, and loyalty towards the monarchy, are still embedded among the military culture. As such most members of the military will generally follow orders given to them by their superiors, regardless of any potential consequences it could imply, even if it were to involve sacrificing themselves or the innocence to achieve victory, or to uphold their loyalty. With such a ruthless nature among the rankings, it is no surprise that most members of the military hold no regard or sympathy towards the oppressed Numbered citizens of the empire, many actually holding racist beliefs against them, while some are quite happy to carry out an order that would mean the unnecessary deaths of Numbered citizens (all these characteristics most likely being the reason why soldiers followed the false order given to purge all the Japanese during the S.A.Z ceremony)
In terms of structure, Britannia's Military is shown to follow a traditional modern military ranking system, with the addition of incorporating those with nobility titles into its rankings. This means members with a noble title and those parts of the aristocracy are permitted to serve in the military, and the higher their title among Britnnian Society, the higher the rankings and commanding positions they will be granted to hold. For example; someone with the title of "Knight or Knight of Honor" may hold a slightly lower position, either as a soldier or basic Knightmare Frame pilot, while others with higher titles like "Earl" or "Marquess" will be placed in leadership or commanding officer positions. This method of ranking explains how some notable members of Britannia's Imperial Family are shown to be heavily involved with military affairs, even leading campaigns against enemies of the Empire.
It is also shown the Military allows for the operation of individual groups that may not be directly tied to the military's main branches. These groups would either support the military efforts and/or strive to push a certain political ideology into the rankings, such as the Purist Faction (a group of elite Knights and Nobles descended from Pureblood Britannians who wanted the eradication of Numbered citizens from serving within the military) or the many of Britannia's dedicated Knight Orders and groups operating alongside the military.
In terms of appearance, the most common uniform for standard Britannian Military personnel is a unique light blue & black trim military tunic with a red necktie, however, this varies depending on which division or branch they are a part of. Higher-ranking officials like Colonels or Generals may usually wear grey & black tunics, while those apart of the Nobility, Royal Guards, or Knight Orders wear their own distinctive uniforms. Rank identification symbols are very minimal, instead of an individual's rank is usually associated with their name or by the type of uniform they are wearing, however, it is shown that higher-ranking mainline military personnel wears golden collar badges instead of silver ones. Additionally, colored armbands are also used by some divisions to identify themselves (such as the Purist Faction wearing a red armband, and the A.S.S.E.C wearing green armbands) All of Britannia's Military forces are united under a golden imperial eagle symbol, which appears on many of their uniforms, vehicles, military bases, and equipment.

Britannian Civilians
Although descended from the former British Empire, with English as its national language and direct cultural roots that still exist in its modern state (such as drinking tea as a beverage and an appreciation for classical art, opera, equestrianism and namesakes e.g. Glasgow, Sutherland and Warwick) Britannia's culture is both unique and diverse, mirroring that of many real world countries, especially that of America and other European nations (French cuisine seemingly admired throughout both series despite a deep rivalry with the EU over their control of the British Isles. German names and titles are also very common.)

Ashford Academy

Ashford Academy is a Britannian private academy in the former Britannian settlement in the United States of Japan (formerly Area 11), established, owned and operated by the Ashford Foundation, a philanthropic organization involved predominantly in the supply of educational services, founded by the formerly noble Ashford House. Unbeknownst to most, it is attended by Lelouch and Nunnally, who, owing to their mother's past relationship with the Ashfords, have been granted free residence within the campus's Student Government Clubhouse. In the manga, it is implied that the academy itself was once Japanese owned and operated.

Euro Britannia
Euro Britannia (ユーロブリタニア帝国, Yūro Buritania Teikoku, literally translated as “Euro Britannian Empire”) is a subject and tributary-empire of the Holy Britannian Empire and is the primary antagonist to the E.U., being at war with them. Later in the series, they (alongside intervention from the main Britannian Empire) are shown to have defeated most of the E.U. forces, conquering a large amount of its territories, which leads to the union’s eventual collapse by the events of the second season.
Prior to the successful invasion of most of western Europe by the Holy Britannian Empire, Euro Britannia was located on mainland Russia and in the countries of the Caucasus. It is possible that France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland may have become part of this sub-empire after the collapse of the Europia United. Much like the Holy Britannian Empire, Euro Britannia has no control over the British Isles, despite what its name might suggest. However, unlike the Holy Britannian Empire, Euro Britannia does not seem to enforce the same Area and Numbers label systems onto its conquered regions as the main Empire does.
By the time the Second Assault on Tokyo Settlement begins, Euro Britannia seems to have lost all its territories except for Russia.
Being a part of the Holy Britannian Empire, the government of Euro Britannia has a similar structure to what is seen on the Britannia mainland, and what is seen in Britannian controlled Areas, but possesses far greater independence. At the head of this sub-empire is the "Grand Duke", currently Augusta Henry Highland, who acts as the sovereign of the sub-empire. The Grand Duke is assisted by a "House of Lords" that consists of members with high ranking nobility, who are decedents of the original European aristocracy that were exiled from their homeland. The Grand Duke resides in Catherine's Palace, which is just outside the capital, Sankt Petersburg.
As a tributary state to the Empire, the Euro Britannian government enjoys far greater autonomy than the viceregal government of a Britannian Area, able to dictate its own policies without interference from the central Britannian Government. The position of the ruling Grand Duke is effectively that of an Emperor in all but name, with only the Emperor of the Holy Britannian Empire possessing greater authority, as ruler over all of Britannia and its colonies.

Knightly Orders of Euro Britannia
The Chivalric Orders of Euro Britannia were established to act as both the sword and shield of Euro Britannia. Their first duty is to protect their homeland from all threats and act similar to the Knights of the Round in Britannia. There are Four Orders in total, each led by a Grand Master. During times of emergency, the House of Lords can grant emergency powers to the Chivalric Orders, giving them martial powers over state and military. The Knightly Orders, aside from their ceremonial name are each an army on its own with each Order having access to formidable equipment and Knightmares.
Holy Order of Michael
The Holy Order of Michael is one of the four chivalric orders of the Euro Britannia under the command of Grand Master Shin Hyuga Shaing after killing the previous leader, Michele Manfredi. They are considered to be the most influential, and perhaps the most powerful, of the four holy orders.Their main headquarters is located in Istanbul, and they have a number of military base locations such as the Dnieper Upland in Ukraine. It was the Holy Order of Michael Knights, under Shin Hyuga's leadership, which organized a Coup d'état against the commanding structure of Euro Britnnina, and a planned rebellion on the Britannian homeland, events which ultimately lead to Euro Britannia having to allow intervention from the main Holy Britannian Empire into its affairs. Their color scheme seems to be primarily red, with white and gold markings.

Europia United
Shown in yellow on the map, the Europia United, or E.U., is a democratic union[5] formed during the time of revolution (1800s). It has been to be overseen by a council that meets in a location known as the Central Hemicycle. It is implied that before Napoleon died, he set down the foundations for the creation of the E.U., so its capital is most likely Paris or (like the real world E.U.) Brussels. It has long been in conflict with Britannia, with a legendary commander stationed at the El Alamein Front to check the Britannian advance into North Africa. It encompasses all of Europe (including the British Isles), Africa, and Russia. In the second season, Schneizel leads the Britannian forces against the E.U., successfully conquering almost half of their territory. The remaining EU territory either joined the UFN, or decided to remain unaligned. It is unknown whether the E.U. still exists or it has dissolved into independent states.
The E.U. apparently organizes their military into left-wing and right-wing camps, and their forces are drawn from National Guard-style units from a member nation (i.e. the German National Guard, the Italian National Guard and the Dutch Engineering Corps).
WZERO
The wZERO Unit is a secret special unit within the Europia United army that participates in the war against the Britannian invasion of Europe. Its command and operating staff are made of EU officers, while its troops and Knightmare pilots are composed of "Elevens", former Japanese who were recruited from the ghettos of "Île de la Cité" in Paris. This unit's duty is to undertake highly dangerous missions with low percentage of survival. Since the war with Britannia began, The Council of Forty began recruiting a unit of non-EU citizens to fight in the front line, to prevent more casualties and deaths being inflicted on their troops. The Elevens (Japanese) population from Île de la Cité, an Island in Paris were they have been exiled by Britannia, were recruited by the E.U. with the condition that they and their families would be granted EU citizenship if they join the military.
The existence of this unit is unknown to the public and EU members and scientists are tasked at supervising them, while they participate in suicide missions that often sends pilots to their deaths. The recent commander of the wZERO, Anou, had nearly sacrificed the entire wZERO because of his incompetence with Akito being the only survivor of his most recent mission before Ryo and his group joined. Their main Knightmares are the Alexanders. The letter w in the squad's name refers to a winged dragon-like reptile called wyvern, which is the team's symbol, as seen on the left arm of the members in the red part of the uniform.

Chinese Federation
Shown in teal on the map, the Chinese Federation is an imperial monarchy that spans the Asian and Pacific regions, including Central Asia, South Asia, continental Eastern Asia, and Southeast Asia which include Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand (except the Philippines and Cambodia) with Sakhalin and the Korean Peninsula. Its population is the largest of the three major powers, but most live in poverty. Its political structure and organization appears to resemble the real-world Empire of China, probably that of China under the Han dynasty as its capital is located in Luo Yang the same as where the Han dynasty capital was. The Emperor of the Federation was formerly an office that held absolute political power, but it has since been reduced to an effectively symbolic figurehead posting, "a symbol of the state and the unity of the people." As with the real-world Emperor of Japan, the individual who holds the title is regarded as a living divinity whose sovereignty is entirely ceremonial. Prior to a civilian uprising, true control of the nation lies with the brutal governmental organization known as the High Eunuchs. Following the group's liquidation, the territories of the Federation become politically fragmented.
Under the High Eunuchs, the Federation sought to take control of Area 11 for its own purposes. In the first season, General Cao attempts unsuccessfully to set up a puppet government in Kyūshū, using the remnants of the Japanese cabinet in exile. In the second season, a Chinese consulate is established with the agreement of the local Britannian authorities, and negotiations are held by Eunuch Gao Hai to the end of obtaining a solid Chinese foothold within the colony. The Federation has long-standing hostilities with the Europia United, but this is resolved when half of the EU was conquered by Britannia while the other half joined United Federation of Nations. After joining the UFN, it changed its name to United States of China.

Australia
Shown in white, Australia is seemingly independent of Britannia, possibly due to the historical divergence, causing no English settlers to be sent and no penal colony established. However, this is questionable given the circumstances, as Australia was discovered by the Dutch in 1606, and the Netherlands were a separate European nation from Tudor Dynasty Britannia at this time. Furthermore, it is implied by Mao to be populated in the episode "Cheering Mao," and is may be solely populated by native Australian Aborigines, however this seems unlikely due to the reason that to leave a large amount of land with masses of resources unconquered highly incomprehensible.
Kingdom of Zilkhstan
The Kingdom of Zilkhstan, known as the Land of Warriors, is said to be an invincible kingdom that once even defeated the army of the Holy Britannian Empire while they were outnumbered.
Geography
Situated between cliffs and the sea, the country is made up of roughly 90% desert. Because of this, it has little in the way of natural resources.
The capital city of Gralbahd sits on the seaside. A temple is built into the nearby cliffside, which sits at 1000m tall. It stands among the clusters of modern buildings as the centerpiece of the city and towers over the densely populated areas on both sides. The city's palace, seated right on the water, is connected directly to the temple by a bridge.
The Wailing Prison is located on the Gimsula Plains, built in what was once an ancient temple housing the Aramu Gate.
The geographical real-world location of the country appears to be around Sindh, Pakistan and Gujarat, India, and perhaps more parts of Pakistan and India. Its proximity to India explains why Rakshata mentions being familiar with the area.
History
Originally, the Kingdom of Zilkhstan was once a lush and green land with a river flowing through the country. However, centuries of warfare caused the river to dry up, rendering the country desolate and causing it to fall into decline. The country's population consist of migrants from Europia, Asia, Africa and the local population from 300 years ago, all of which have since then intermixed with each other to create the Zilkhstanian people that we know today. The result is a fusion of cultures that makes the Zilkhstanian culture distinct to the region.
Since its founding, Zilkhstan has been supported from behind the scenes by Farlaf, an organization that split off from the Geass Order 300 years ago. Because of this, there are systems to enter the World of C throughout the country, called Aramu Gates. One such location is beneath the Wailing Prison in the Gimsula Plains, while another is located in the temple in the capital.
Due to the country's lack of natural resources, the #1 exported commodity is its own soldiers. All over the world, Zilkhstan's soldiers have been hired as mercenaries. The strength of Zilkhstan is such that there was a time when a handful of Zilkhstan soldiers could defeat Britannian armies. In the event that the seaside capital is attacked or invaded, 12,000 armed soldiers stand ready to defend it.
Religious Institution
The Kingdom of Zilkhstan's religious affairs is administered by Shamna. The country also housed the Farlaf Order, an organization that once was part of the Geass Order and now serves as the main religious organization within the country. Not much is known about the religious practices of the Farlaf Order but the citizens of Zilkhstan are shown to be extremely devout and can be seen worshiping at the direction of the Temple of Zilkhstan. And a group of worshipers can be seen lining up in procession on their way to the temple.
Temple of Zilkhstan
The Temple of Zilkhstan is a temple serving as a religious administration building and as an important spiritual symbol and cultural landmark to the kingdom. The temple also houses members of theFarlaf Order to administer religious rites and practices to the entire city and to serve as a legitimizing spiritual forces for the current regime.
The highest ranking individual that use take up residency in the temple was the High Priestess Shamna.
The Temple is also guarded by a group of all female Temple Guard. Which are seen to never leave Shamna's side. And can also be seen zealously guarding her and her brother Shario.
Farlaf Order
The Farlaf Order is an organization that was mentioned byC.C. that was created after breaking away from the Geass Order and by the way some members still refers to V.V. with some reverences and seems to know C.C. it can be hinted that the breakup of the two group only happened not so long ago.
The Farlaf Order despite being formed after a falling out with the Geass Order seems to have long history with the region of Zilkhstan dating back almost 300 years ago to the founding of the country. As shown through their symbol being adopted as a national flag of the country. Hinting that the reason the country exist in the first place was because of their group intervening in favor for the creation of the country. Or they could be a new group merely adopting the tradition of the old group that used to called Zilkhstan their home.
As stated earlier there are possibility that the Farlaf was instrumental in the creation of the country and that means the creation, the continuation and prosperity of the country was maintained through the use of Geass throughout the centuries. The same way Shamna used her power of "prophecy" to guide the direction of her country. This explains why the country has never been defeated before despite being much smaller. There's also possibility that every Zilkhstan Royal family were given Geass the same as Shamna by members of the Order in order to protect the country and the Order from outside threat.
Not much is known of what the Farlaf Order did when it's still a part of the Geass Order other than admitting Shamna and Swaile into the Organization. The only thing that is known is that Farlaf was researching of a way of connecting to world of C's through an intermediary through the use of a blood relation.
During the second year of the Kowa period the Farlaf Order currently resides in the Temple of Zilkhstan and remain as an influental organization inside the country even becoming the face of the religion of the Kingdom of Zilkhstan and it's moral authority. It is unclear whether or not that each members of the religion are all members of the Farlaf Order and knows about the existence of Geass or is that not all members of the religion knows about it and only a select few knows about the going on inside the temple. While the rest are true believers.
It is also hinted that the Farlaf Order operated a group of assassins under the command of Swaile to hunt down enemy of the State like the Black Knights and other such entities that poses a threat.
Government
Zilkhstan is jointly ruled by the siblings Shalio and Shamna, with Shamna handling religious affairs while Shalio handles military affairs. At first glance, the country seems stable, but from certain conversations, it is revealed that the country is in a dire situation. It lost the use of war as its main economic earning was due to the creation of the UFN and the Zero Requiem. There's also a disputed claim with another country although it's not clear with which country. Another issue was the influx of refugees and the lack of Energy Packs, leading to General Folgnar discussing a possible allegiance with another country, like Indonesia, only to be refused because every country now prioritizes its own development. This led to the country's drastic decision to kidnap a UFN representative, even risking retaliation from the UFN.

Military
The Kingdom of Zilkhstan is also known as the Land of Warriors for good reason. For centuries, the Zilkhstanian Military have defeated any foes that threatened the country, even defeating the Britannian Empire once in the past while being outnumbered. Despite the country's military prowess and boasts of being to able to defeat any foe, the country's military now found itself unable to act against its newest obstacle: world peace.
The Military is not only responsible for the defense of the country; it is also the main driver of its economy. The Kingdom is known to sell its service to other countries in the form of mercenaries to in order to earn capital, but due to the world currently being at peace after Zero Requiem, the economy of the country fell. Still, the country's military remains a force to be reckoned with.
The Order of the Black Knights
The Order of the Black Knights (黒の騎士団, Kuro no kishidan) are a group of vigilante rebels who fight against the Holy Britannian Empire. Founded by Zero, they define themselves as the "Heroes of Japan", and differentiate themselves from other terrorists groups such as the Japan Liberation Front, who take hostages and save civilians, though this may simply be a tactic to increase public support and recruitment. Most members are former Japanese, many of whom have defected from other insurgent groups, though many other peoples, even Britannians may be found among their ranks. Their logo is a Geass Sigil with a sword through it, the same logo used in the spinoff Nightmare of Nunnally, by the Geass Order. After the ratification of the Union States Charter, the Black Knights became the military force of the United Federation of Nations.

United Federation of Nations

In order to combat Britannia successfully, Lelouch proposed a federation of all nations. Initially called the United States Alliance, during formal Ratification it was known as United Federation of Nations, consisting of United States of Japan, the Chinese Federation, exiled governments from the Areas, and fragments of Europia United. In total, 47 nations joined the UFN by R2 Episode 16. Its capital is based on Penglai Island.
According to analysis by the Britannian Media, the United Federation of Nations wields power that equals that of Britannia. When a country joins the UFN, the signatory agrees to resign their military power. In their stead, the Order of the Black Knights, which is not affiliated to any country, will agree to defend them in exchange for continued power and support for the United Federation of Nations. If an action were to be taken by the Black Knights, all members must agree to it.
United States of Japan
The United States of Japan is declared by Zero near the end of the first season. The country rebels against the Britannian Empire following the failed attempt at establishing the Special Administrative Zone of Japan, but is defeated when Lelouch abandons the Black Knights in search of Nunnally.[11] Upon their escape to the Chinese Federation Consulate in the second season, Zero once again declares its formation, this time as a room in the consulate.[9] While Britannia considers it to be non-existent, other countries, the Chinese Federation among them, do recognize it.
After the exile of the Black Knights, the Japanese are granted control of the artificial island of Penglai in Chinese territory, which has recently become their temporary capital.
History
The Imperial Calendar refers to the date and setting Code Geass uses in the English version, in which years are labeled as a.t.b or "Ascension Throne Britannia". It is set to the date the first Celtic super-king, Alwin I, was elected by the united British tribes to battle Rome, becoming the first member of the modern Britannian imperial family. This calendar is used by the Holy Empire of Britannia. It functions similarly to the standard Gregorian Calendar (B.C.E./C.E. or alternatively B.C./A.D.), but starts half a century earlier.
What calendar the other nations may use is unknown. The fact the birth of Christ is not used may suggest that Christianity was never established in this Universe; however, in the English dub, Lloyd mentions "Onward Christian Soldiers", Christ is mentioned at Shirley's father's funeral, and the appearance of a Catholic Nun in the second season suggests that it does exist but may not be widely subscribed to. Most Britannians do not appear to practice Christianity while some do, as Shirley Fenette's family is shown to practice a form of Protestant Christianity, likely Anglicanism. Indeed, religion is rarely mentioned in the original Japanese version, but is referenced more frequently in the English dub.
As referenced in Code Geass: Akito the Exiled, the Europia United shown is using the French Republican Calendar. The first entry in Leila Malcal's journal in the first episode of Code Geass: Akito the Exiled is dated as "Revolutionary Calendar, year 228, Floréal 18th" (a.t.b. May 7, 2017), and in the second episode "Revolutionary Calendar, year 228, Prairial 7th" (a.t.b. May 26th, 2017).
As the events of the first episode of Akito the Exiled occur in the year 2017 a.t.b., it is safe to assume that the Revolutionary Calendar starts with the Storming of the Bastille, which occurred at July 14, 1789 (2017 - 228 = 1789). It revealed as set on same year in our world. But revealed a.t.b. and A.D. have differences officially.[1]
Following the death of Emperor Lelouch at the hands of Zero, a new calendar system is adopted from the following year on, referred to as Light Sum.
Technology
The World of Geass has technology similar to that of 21st Century Earth in concept, but in execution is considerably more advanced. While traditional amenities are roughly the same, spread to the population, the level of technology on the computer systems and mobility are far more advanced. This said, there is no space program, and the development of Weapons of Mass Destruction is less than a decade old. The advent of Geass has changed the course of technology, as has the alternate world history.
Sakuradite
Sakuradite is a rare mineral found only in the World of Geass. Described as the "Philosopher's Stone", it was first discovered near Stonehenge some time during the Middle Ages. Marco Polo would later journey to Japan and discover large deposits of the mineral. After Sakuradite became valuable as a superconductor, Japan would become a primary exporter of the material, and produces nearly 70% of the world's Sakuradite to this day. It is somewhat responsible for the more advanced technology in this world.
Prior to its invasion and occupation by the Britannian Empire, Japan used its position as the world's primary exporter of the mineral as a bargaining chip to exploit consumer nations and increase its own revenue. This eventually sparked the Second Pacific War, in which Japan was conquered. One of the largest Sakuradite mines was recently built on Mount Fuji, much to the dismay of Japanese nationalists.
Its name most likely originates from the word sakura, which means "Cherry Blossom" and in Japan is associated with the color pink, as well as a large number of additional symbolic associations.
The true composition of sakuradite is unknown, but usually appears as a bright pink material. It is most likely a type of rocky ore when first mined, due to the fact of both being the Philosopher's Stone by medieval European culture and that it is mined. Sakuradite is both extremely unstable and extremely explosive; a single tanker filled with it had enough destructive force to completely destroy an entire fleet of ships belonging to the Japanese Liberation Front when it was detonated. Sakuradite has both superconductive and radioactive properties, and thus, it is both very valuable and necessary in the production of Knightmare Frames. As a high temperature super conductor, it is used in seventh generation Knightmares and above to conserve energy for high energy demand systems such as Blaze Luminous and Float Systems. As a radioactive material, it is used to power Knightmare Frames and fuel nuclear bombs. It is one of only two energy sources shown in the Code Geass universe with the other being solar energy.
Sakuradite has many uses, the most prominent being the power source of the Knightmare Frame mobile weapons as well as the superconductive power grid for custom 7th generation Knightmares and above. Sakuradite is also used to power most all machinery. It can also be used to make small bombs capable of extreme damage by themselves, although the only instance of these bombs is when Lelouch presents one as a last resort for survival while held at gun point, so it is unknown if these are actually manufactured for military use or if that was the only one.
The only real weakness to sakuradite is the Gefjun Disturber, a device that shuts down all sakuradite powered machinery in its range of effect. The disturbers were first used to deactivate enemy Knightmare Frames (the first being the Lancelot), although countermeasures have been developed. The Gefjun Disturber significantly affects both the superconductive and radioactive properties of sakuradite. >br?
Sakuradite in its rawest form is one of the most dangerous materials in the world. A piece of ore about the size of someone's palm, when tapped together with another piece, can generate massive explosions as shown in Code Geass: Renya of Darkness. In fact, Sakuradite will explode from any strong impact, and mining it safely in its ore form requires it to be shaved off bit by bit.
Vehicles
Aside from Knightmare frames, other vehicles are used for tactical and strategical purposes, such as serving as Knightmare Frame carriers. High efficiency electric vehicles are the standard, typically powered by a sakuradite energy filler. Pre-modern vehicles have been known to attain 50 horsepower, and go roughly 100 Kilometers per hour at maximum. Combustion of fossil fuels as a power source for vehicles may never had became commonplace in the world of Code Geass, though it is unknown if the principle is used.
Automatic Weapons
Unlike real-world firearms, those found in the world of Code Geass do not use gunpowder as an ammunition propellant, eliminating the need for brass casings; instead they operate by using a strong electromagnetic pulse generated by sakuradite to fire bullets. Such weapons are used by the Britannian Military, The Black Knights, and the Chinese Federation.
F.L.E.I.J.A.
The Field Limitary Effective Implosion Armament (F.L.E.I.J.A.) is a "Heavy Strategic Anti-strongpoint Neutralize Warhead" developed by In Vogue under the leadership of Nina Einstein. Nina Einstein was also able to develop a countermeasure for the F.L.E.I.J.A. known as the F.L.E.I.J.A. Eliminator.
Initially under development in Ashford Academy by Nina Einstein, it was Nina's personal research on the possibility of using Uranium-235 as viable source of fuel. Lloyd Asplund later took an interest and provided her with sakuradite to further her research. Following Princess Euphemia's death, she created a makeshift nuclear reactor fortified with sakuradite, intending to detonate it and take out all of Tokyo in a misguided attempt to kill Zero and avenge Euphemia. However, it failed to explode.
After being recruited as the chief of the In Vogue development team, she continued her research into nuclear power; however, the earlier prototypes all failed to achieve her desired result. She eventually created her first working prototype, dubbing it F.L.E.I.J.A. She mounted the first one on the Lancelot. Suzaku Kururugi then detonated the prototype in the middle of the Tokyo Settlement, killing over 35 million people.
A month afterward, the Toromo Agency managed to mass-produce them and mounted several of them on Schneizel's sky fortress, the Damocles.
It is a bomb of an unknown type, developed using sakuradite to cause a tremendous collapse effect obliterating all matter within its area of effect. It has the destructive power of fifty mega-collapse effects and is reinforced with sakuradite by twenty units. Its range is at least 3,000 meters within a cylindrical zone, preceded by a 1,300-meter radius spherical zone, and a tertiary range of 5,000 to 8,000 meters. The succeeding bombs created by the Toromo Institute, however, removed Nina's limiter, giving it a blast radius of 50 kilometers.
World of Geass Knightmare Frames
Knightmare Frames(ナイトメアフレーム), officially designated as the Humanoid Autonomous Armored Knight, are giant mechanized vehicles designed by the Britannian Empire. Using self-propelled roller skate systems called 'Landspinners' to achieve high mobility and speeds on almost any terrain, they have all but replaced other ground-based combat vehicles. They are equipped with sophisticated 'Factsphere' open sensor cameras to gather visual data. They are powered by a Yggdrasil Drive and later models incorporate sakuradite. Verbally, the name sounds like nightmare, but in spelling, it refers to a knight's mare.
Typical Knightmare Frame armament includes hand-held rifles, shoulder or wrist-mounted wired rocket anchors called Slash Harkens, Stun Tonfas, lances, and air burst hand grenades. The cockpit, set in the protruding "hump back", is equipped with rocket engines and parachutes so that the pilot can eject to safety in case of emergency. Recent seventh generation Knightmare frames do not follow these standards and are equipped with experimental technologies.
Geass

Geass is a supernatural ability which certain people can bestow upon others. C.C. is the most prominent character who grants the power of Geass.
The Geass manifests differently in each individual, possibly related to their inner desires and personality. The power of Geass increases with use, and should the user lack the willpower, they may be consumed by it, which was the case with Mao. C.C. calls Geass the Power of Kings, and though she is unable to use the power herself, she is immune to the power being used on her. In the final episode of the second season, Lelouch states that the Geass is a form of wish (referring to himself and C.C.). However, people who have Geass are not immune to the Geass effects of others. The Geass is represented by a glowing, bird-shaped symbol.
Every Geass, while powerful, has its own unique set of restrictions, limitations, or idiosyncrasies. These factors allow a Geass to be defeated, or its power limited, by someone who is aware of its characteristics. All Geass abilities that have thus far appeared within the canon of the television series have been related to the mind, influencing such things as will, thought, memory and perception. Geass abilities in the alternate universe manga Nightmare of Nunnally have no such limitations. All Geass, regardless of user, appear in only one eye in the initial stages. Eventually, assuming the user lives long enough, the Geass will eventually begin to grow until it shows on both eyes, seemingly as a result of repeated use, or pushing the Geass to exceed its own limits. However, overuse and/or mental instability can lead to an affliction known as "runaway Geass" that causes the user to become unable to control their Geass, making it become permanently active.
The only cases of people who manifested a "perfect" Geass are Charles zi Britannia, Dash and Lelouch (in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection), who both showed their ability to activate their Geass at will, yet possess Geass in both eyes. Once the Geass evolves to two eyes, it is strong enough to take the Code of a Code Bearer, thereby rendering the former Code Bearer mortal again, making them an Immortal who is immune to all Geass and who loses his/her own Geass ability.
It should be noted that the death of the former Code Bearer is not a requisite for the Code transfer. This is evidenced by the fact that V.V. was still alive for quite a while after Charles already got his Code. Charles did not kill V.V., he merely succumbed to his injuries from the battle with Lelouch and Cornelia. It should also be noted that C.C. was also giving people Geass with the hopes they would render her mortal once their Geass reached maximum strength, so she could commit suicide like the nun did before her.
According to an English edition of "Newtype", the power of Geass has something to do with the very existence of humankind, and it may be used to destroy, control, or transform just about anything. This is because the "gods" of the Geass universe are actually a collection of subconscious and will that are always in conflict, and one with a powerful Geass could influence it, as Lelouch does in the series, and Charles seemingly does, and with a proper system, can also influence reality, which is the concept behind the Sword Of Akasha.
There appears to be something that connects Geass users and the ones they form contracts with, allowing them to sense certain changes in the other. C.C. was able to sense exactly when Lelouch's Geass went runaway, while Orpheus and Marrybell were both able to sense when V.V. died through a pain they felt in their Geass.
The power of Geass is not absolutely successful as there have been certain cases shown where a victim is able to resist the effects of Geass, often due to the victim's grudge against the Geass user. For example, Lelouch and Nunnally were able to negate Emperor Charles' Geass due to their acceptance of reality over false memories. Again, Euphemia and Nunnally both attempted to resist Lelouch's orders due to the fact that it was against their personalities to follow his orders, though it was rendered useless and the orders were executed nonetheless. Also, Lelouch was seen resisting Charles' Geass due to the conflict between Julius Kingsley's persona and his own after his capture at the Battle of the Tokyo Settlement. Another set of cases are the Code Bearers - beings who can bestow Geass, however the principle behind it is unknown. Notable examples are C.C., V.V., and Emperor Charles.
Trivia
Jibun Wo~
- Okay a lot of these characters are dead, and trying to organize all of them by the post-02 setting, but pre-Re:surrection would be hard, and kinda reductionist. So I listed everything.
