City 7

The Macross 7 is the leading ship of the 37th Long Distance Colony Fleet, consisting of two parts; the City 7, where civilian populace live, and the Battle 7, a detachable battlefortress that can transform into a massive humanoid fortress. It is part of the New Macross Class line of ships.
City 7
The colonization of space that began in 2012, though initially beset by misfortune, was proving largely successful for the human race. Mass cloning provided significant population growth and the Megaroad Class ships were regularly carrying colonists to inhabit planets in the far reaches of space. Eventually, the growth of both the population and resources of the United Nations Government (UNG) demanded larger, more sophisticated ships to continue space colonization. Hence, the New Macross Class Super-Massive Colonization Battleships were designed and constructed. In 2030, the next major colonization fleet departed for the unknown with the first New Macross Class ship in command. With a total fleet population of over one million people, these massive colony fleets would quickly become the standard for the new wave of space colonization in the 2030's.
The Battle Class Stealth Space Attack Carrier vessels are designed primarily as flagships for super-long-distance colonization fleets. Though armed for heavy anti-ship combat the primary role of the Battle Class is acting as mobile command center and the largest spacecraft/aircraft carrier in the fleet. The powerful main gun is a super beam weapon built as a mobile gunship separable from the ventral hull of the ship. The gunship is built with its own reactor and is capable of independent navigation if required. Like the SDF-1 Macross Class Super Dimension Fortress ships that preceded them, the Battle Class vessels are fully transformable ships that can convert into a humanoid-shaped Attack mode. The main gun is supplemented with four beam cannons, concealed/unconcealed ports for converging energy cannons and missile launchers. The Battle Class also carries a large number of over 700 variable fighters, attack craft and bombers that can engage enemy fleets and any enemy attack craft. For rapid deployment of all aerospace craft, the Battle Class has twelve total standard catapults; six on the forward deck, three on the center deck and three on the aft port side angled deck. The ship is also equipped with three additional electromagnetic catapults and a command liaison hatch mounted just forward of the main bridge for immediately launching interceptor-fighters (typically VF-17D Nightmare fighters). For defense, the Battle Class has a pin-point barrier system and a short range full barrier system to defeat incoming enemy fire. In accordance with UN Spacy military doctrine for all ships of the line, the Battle Class has a stealth composition.
The City Class ships are designed as the super-long-distance colonization vessels of the New Macross Class. These ships almost always remained docked to the Battle Class vessels except in time of battle when the carrier will detach from the power plant docking unit mounted at the fore of the City ship. Inside the City Class ships is a fully functional city of roughly 350,000 people beneath the main dome. Outside the main city dome there is docking bay island (approximately 300 meters long) and the event dome. The City ships are powered by a separate reactor and even feature a basic space fold system for short-range interstellar travel. The City Class ships have no weapons and the City ship docked with the first Battle Class, Macross 1, had no defensive system. However, later City Class ships are all designed with a defensive shell that covers the city section of the craft in times of emergency (though both docking bay island and the event domes remain uncovered by the shell).
Perhaps the most distinguished of this ship class is the Macross 7 of the 37th long-distance colonization fleet that took part in the Protodeviln War in 2045. The 37th long-distance colonization fleet consisted of 1 x Battle 7/City 7 (Macross 7), 1 x Einstein Research Experimental Ship, 1 x Hollywood Amusement Ship, 1 x Riviera Resort Ship, 1 x Sunnyflower Agricultural Ship, 1 x Three Star Factory Ship, 1 x West Point Class Macro-Training Base Ship, one or more Mark Twain VII Resort Ships, 45 x Guantánamo Class Stealth Carriers (for use in space), 20 x Uraga Class Escort Battle Carriers (for use in air and space) and lastly 120 x Northampton Class Stealth Frigates (for use in air and space). The ship-carried aircraft/spacecraft for the entire fleet consisted of approximately 1,800 x variable fighters (mostly VF-11C Thunderbolts), 600 x variable attack craft, 9 x variable bombers, 120 x electronic reconnaissance fighters, 60 x cargo plane/freight transports and 100 x liaison craft. Total fleet count is 194 large ships (of which 186 are combat ships) and 2,689 small craft (Macross Chronicle 2E Worldguide 15A). Commanded by Maximillian Jenius, the Battle 7 participated in numerous engagements against the Varauta Army throughout the war. Both the crew of the Battle 7 and the colonists of City 7 worked together during the ProtodevilnWar to develop a highly specialized sound technology that was used by several City 7 citizens to combat the Protodevlin. The infamous variable fighter unit Sound Force was stationed onboard the Macross 7 and the pilots - who together formed the rock band Fire Bomber - lived in the "Akusho" (or Acshio) area, the docking bay island section of City 7.
Parts
The ship Macross 7 is the seventh model of the New Macross class of deep space colonization ships. It consists of two parts:
- City 7: an enormous, egg-shaped spacecraft with a pressurized dome containing an entire city. It has a clam-like "lid" which can close over the dome to provide protection during attacks (known as "shell down"), and whose inner surface projects an image of an Earth-like sky. The city's mayor is Milia Fallyna Jenius. Smaller pods attached to the main city-ship contain additional city blocks, including the unregistered block Akusho, a district of crumbling, empty buildings in which Basara Nekki lives.
- Battle 7: a battle carrier (similar to the Uraga-class carrier), it can launch squadrons of variable fighters, including the elite Diamond Force, when attacked. It can also detach and transform into an approximately three-quarter-mile-high robot, equipped with a powerful Super Beam Weapon that can decimate an enemy battle fleet. The super beam weapon is mounted in gunship which Battle 7 holds in its right "hand". The captain is Maximilian Jenius, with advice provided by Exsedol Folmo, whose (macronized) head is visible on the bridge. Ship is said to carry 450 x variable fighters, including VF-11C Thunderbolt, 3 x VF-17 Nightmare, 3 x VF-19 Excalibur, 2 x VF-22S Sturmvogel II and 250 other small support craft.
- Einstein-class: The Einstein Research Experimental Ships (ship class unknown) are built for the United Scientific Consortium to conduct various types of research. While used primarily for astrophysics, gravitational engineering and space biology, the Einstein has come to be utilized for all types of research and even prototype product development. The extensive scientific facilities and analytical capabilities of the Einstein makes the ship ideal for exploration and an indispensable part of any fleet traveling through uncharted areas of space. In December of 2045, the Einstein became very active after the discovery of Protoculture Ruins on the planet Rax. The extensive facilities aided the UN Forces as they examined all information gathered from the Protoculture temple. Advisor Exedol was a key figure in researching data gathered about the Protoculture and the Protoculture connection to the Protodeviln. All this research was conducted on the research ship and Exedol remained aboard the Einstein up until the end of the Protodeviln War in 2046.
- Hollywood-class: Though serving as an entertainment vessel, the Hollywood Amusement Ship (ship class unknown) is actually much more. Designed as the eyes and ears of the fleet, the Hollywood is a collection of sensors and communications systems. The whole of the ship is a massive antenna with a largely hollow interior. The Hollywood is equipped with a powerful fold communications facility for broadcasting within the galaxy network signal and the actual communications and transmitting/receiving system accounts for only a small portion of the internal space within the ship. There are several theme parks within the hollow interior and thus these facilities have given rise to the perception of the ship as an amusement center by the civilian population of the 37th Long-Distance Colonization Fleet.
- 1 x Riviera-class Resort Ship (containing an artificial beach)
- 1 x Mark Twain VII-class Resort Ships
- 1 x Budoukan-class Concert Ship
- 1 x Sunnyflower-class Agricultural Ship
- 1 x Three Star-class Factory Ship
- 1 x West Point-class Macro-Training Base Ship
- 45 x Guantánamo-class Stealth Carriers (for use in space). Known vessles: ARMD-375 Momoi: With a total length of 400 meters, height of 71 meters and width of 111 meters, and an operational mass of 9,500 tonnes, the Guantanomo-class had excellent productivity like the ARMD-class. This was because of its typically simple construction, which had engines and armaments to added to a fighter dock. The main impulse drive engines were manufactured by General Galaxy whereas the Fold Engines/auxiliary gravity field control systems was manufactured by OTEC and Shinnakasu Heavy Industries. Altogether providing a maximum instantaneous combat acceleration of more than 14.5 G for ships of the line. Each Guantanamo-class vessel featured a diamond-shaped hull structure with four decks. Moreover, the bow and the lower side of the main nozzle in their sterns were large docks. The Guantanamo-class vessels also had excellent carrier-based aircraft deployment ability.
- 20 x Uraga-class Escort Battle Carriers (for use in air and space). Known vesses: Uraga, Branpton, Aberdeen, Keflavik: With a total length of 550 m, and an operational mass of 25,000 tonnes, the Uraga-class is a large vessel, a successor to Guantanamo-class, combining characteristics of a carrier and anti-ship cruiser. Vessels of this class have been known to operate as a flagship of a small fleets, and as defense platforms docked to civilian ships in larger fleets.
- 120 x Northampton-class Stealth Frigates (for use in air and space). Known vessels: Bluenose, Bolognese, Carla, Lucy, Stargazer: With a total length of 250 meters, and an operational mass of 1,200 tonnes, the Northampton-class are smaller than the carrier-class ships they usually protect. They are more mobile and stealthy, and operate in large numbers. They are also often used for reconnaissance missions.

Fire Bomber
Fire Bomber is a legendary rock band from City 7. Fire Bomber were pivotal in the defeat of the Protodeviln after it was discovered that their music was the only thing capable of affecting them. While it's unclear when exactly Fire Bomber was first formed, it is known that Ray Lovelock was once a fighter pilot, wandering aimlessly after getting shot down and losing his best friend in combat. It is during this time that Lovelock encounters the hot-blooded 7-year old Basara Nekki, and takes him under his wing. Seven years later, they form a band, with the 14-year-old Basara as the lead vocalist and Lovelock as a keytar player. They are soon joined by drummer Veffidas Feaze, a former Zentraedi wrestler.
In 2038, Lovelock and Basara move to the Macross 7. Several members join the group, but none could get along with Basara. In March, Mylene Jenius joins the group as bass and accompanying vocalist. They make their first debut in City 7, with mixed results. However, a famous music promoter, Akiko Houjoh, recognizes Fire Bomber's potential, and begins making moves to help the group out. Hostilities soon break out as the mysterious alien Varauta forces begin attacking the colony fleet. This prompts Basara to pilot his VF-19 Kai "Fire" Valkyrie and sing on the battlefield. As time goes on, this peculiar behavior begins to attract an audience, and soon, the group starts to receive recognition for their antics.
By April, a music agent, Akiko, debuts Fire Bomber's first single "Planet Dance". The band also performed in a two hours drama, with lead vocalists Basara and Mylene starring as the legendary Lynn Minmay and Hikaru Ichijyo. Audience ratings shot through the roof, recording a 94% market. Fire Bomber's popularity soarded, and "Planet Dance" landed 8th place in the City 7 musical chart. Their second single "Sweet Fantasy" debuted in second place in the musical chart shortly after.
In September, Fire Bomber is is recruited to form the independent force known as the "Sound Force" after it was discovered that Basara's singing had a profound effect on the Protodevlin forces.
Soon after, Fire Bomber's reputation became legendary as they led the assault to defeat the Protodevlin forces, and save the Macross 7 fleet.

Jamming Birds
Jamming Birds is a musical group from City 7. The group was founded to rival Fire Bomber's Sound Force, and auditions were held in City 7 during a "Jamming Birds contest". Promotion for the group were handled by Sweet Velvet Music Productions under Honey Suzuki. Their most famous single was "Riding in Your Valkyrie", a song that featured previously in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross II: Lovers Again. Various amateurs tried out during the "Jamming Birds Contest", including Ripple Chitose, who said she was inspired by the legendary Lynn Minmay. Milia Fallyna Jenius also auditioned for a position in the group, singing "Banana Moon of Love", but was quickly turned down. Lead scientist Dr. Chiba, presided as one of the judges during the contest, asking very specific questions to the contestants, such as their measurements, or whether they've been in love. Macross 7 bridge adjutant Exsedol Folmo expressed doubt on the project but looked at the bright side, saying “Even if it’s futile, at least it’s nice to look at young women in bathing suits.” Once the unit was formed, both singers and musicians utilized a special VF-11D Thunderbolt "Jamming Bird" fighter.
Ultimately, the Jamming Birds experiment is a failure for a variety of reasons, from their cheap costumes, poor singing and overall ineffectiveness during combat situations. They did see limited success in the final battle against the Protodeviln.
