New United Nations Government

History

In June 2000, worlds leaders banded together to reveal the existence of extraterrestrials, following the discovery of Alien Starship One, or ASS-1, a year prior. This announcement brought about unrest and conflict as fear of an impending intergalactic war spread around the world. By December of that year, plans were drafted to form a "United Nations Government", a singular unified world government.

In January 2001, a league of "rogue" nations opposed to the creation of a unified world government formed the Anti-U.N. Alliance. However, despite heavy criticism, the United Nations Government was established, as was the United Nations Military. Their first elected Prime Minister was Harlan J. Niven. Member states who wished to opt out of the unified government would retain their autonomy.

From 2001 to 2009, a planetary defense program was ratified. Plans to reconstruct the Alien Starship One, or ASS-1, began.[2] Through the development of "Over Technology", experimental new weapons were created, such as the Variable Fighter, Destroid and other space-faring weapon platforms that would be fielded by the nascent U.N. Spacy. Grand Cannons were constructed on Earth and the Moon. Construction of the SDF-2 also proceeded on the moon (later dubbed the Megaroad-01)

Founding
Beginning in 2001, conflict among nations escalated into global civil war, dubbed the Unification Wars.[2] The war between the U.N. Forces and Anti-U.N. Alliance lasted from 2001 to 2008. In 2008, a classified military operation to recover alien relics ocurred on a Mayan Island in the South Pacific.

Space War I
Contact with the Zentradi occurred on South Ataria Island in 2009. The newly completed SDF-1 Macross and its complement of VF-1 Valkyrie engaged the alien incursion, however, communication with the ship and the entire island was lost shortly after the attack. The incident was covered up by officials within the United Nations Government, and work proceeded apace to shore up the Earth's defenses. This was beginning of Space War I.

Humanity Seeding Project
The war ended with the near annihilation of mankind. In 2010, a "new" United Nations Government was formed and plans for the Humanity Seeding were soon underway; first with the construction of "Super Long Range Emigrant Fleets" such as the SDF-2 Megaroad-01, along with the widespread cloning of human and Zentradi alike. As citizens began spreading throughout the galaxy, tensions grew with the current United Nations Government.

Reformation
By the 2050s, far flung emmigrant fleets and colonies began desiring for more autonomous authority from the centralized government on Earth. A Government sanctioned Earth-supremacist group called Latence, backed by the powerful Critical Path Corporation, began interfering with affairs and committing terrorist activities on colony worlds. In response, several groups, including Black Rainbow and Vindirance were formed.

The U.N. Spacy dispatches the VF-X Ravens to suppress the resistance, with its members unaware of the truth of the conspiracy. Following several battles, members of the Ravens discover the truth of Latence and how they wished to dominate the entire galaxy. Thanks to the cooperation of members of the Ravens, Black Rainbow and Vindirance, the conspirators are defeated. These events would eventually culminate in the reformation and creation of a New United Nations Government and New United Nations Spacy.

Current Situation
Contrary to popular belief, the New United Nations Government was not founded after humanity's war with the Zentradi. The conflict, known simply as Space War I, resulted in the catastrophic loss of roughly six billion lives. Nevertheless, humanity achieved peace and a new Unified Government was established, with their sole goal being the rapid colonization through "Super Long Range Emigration Fleets".

By A.D. 2047, thanks to an aggressive breeding and cloning programs that resulted from the Humanity Seeding project, the survivors of the war managed to grow their population to 750 billion citizens. The 2050s however saw citizens of emmigrant fleets and colonists desire a more decentralized form of government. The previous decades saw civil unrest and a growing independence movement that the current centralized government was ill-equipped to deal with given the immense distance between its constituents. A crisis between U.N. Forces, Latence and the VF-X Ravens resulted in the reorganization of the original unified government into the New United Nations Government, where autonomous government agencies would elect a head to represent their interests.[1]

In A.D. 2067, galactic human population numbered at around 1.4 trillion, with half-Zentradi citizens growing to 600 billion, and another trillion making up other alien races. This brought the sum total of citizens under the N.U.N. at three trillion.

New United Nations Spacy

New United Nations Spacy.

The U.N. Spacy is the space defense branch of the United Nations Forces, which itself is under the command of the United Nations Government. They have the capabilities to engage in aerial and maritime warfare similar to the U.N. Air Force and U.N. Navy, respectively. They were succeeded by the New United Nations Spacy following the establishment of the New United Nations Government.

The New United Nations Spacy is the successor to U.N. Spacy, and serves a similar function to the New United Nations Government. However, due to the nature of dealing with bureaucracy among long distance emigrant fleets and colonies, local governments began contracting private military corporations such as Strategic Military Services and Chaos to deal with localized threats more effectively.

Strategic Military Service

Strategic Military Services.

Strategic Military Services, commonly referred to as S.M.S., is a private military company. They provide various military services to clients, such as the New United Nations Spacy. While their main headquarters is located on Earth, they have branches in a number of New United Nations Government-occupied planets and emmigrant fleets. They were heavily involved in the Vajra War.
Strategic Military Services was contracted to provide additional security, among other services for the Macross Frontier fleet. They provided pilots for the LAI corporation in order to conducts field test the VF-25 Messiah series. They also primarily employ former New United Nations Spacy veterans that have invaluable combat experience in the battlefield.

The company's founder, a Zentradi named Richard Bilrer, currently resides in the main Macross Frontier colony ship to study and exploit the Vajra.

S.M.S. military assets for the Frontier include two or more squadrons of VF-25 Messiah, a VB-6 König Monster variable bomber, a small complement of Meltrandi Queadlunn-Rea mecha, a small company of Cheyenne II Destroids and a transformable battlefortress called the Macross Quarter. The S.M.S. maintains its headquarters on Island 1, the primary colony ship of the Macross Frontier Fleet, with additional port facilities where the Macross Quarter is docked.

To increase its appeal, one of the S.M.S. fighter units uses the Skull Squadron moniker, made infamous during Space War I. Ozma Lee is designated Skull Leader, and his VF-25S carries the same colors as Skull 1, once used by Roy Focker. Pilots Henry Gilliam, and Alto Saotome, who replaced the former when he was killed in action, flies a VF-25F in colors similar to Hikaru Ichijo, another Space War I veteran. Michael's VF-25G Valkyrie bears the all-blue colour first flown with by ace Maximilian Jenius. Meanwhile, Klan Klang's Queadluun-Rhea is almost entirely red, echoing the colors of Milia Fallyna Jenius' fighter.

History
Richard Bilrer originally created Strategic Military Services to protect his transportation empire. Since then, S.M.S has been contracted to serve as a garrison unit for the Macross Frontier fleet, providing cutting edge variable fighters and technology. Their services proved invaluable during the Vajra War.

In the 22nd episode "Northern Cross", S.M.S. is dissolved by Bilrer after a devastating Vajra attack on Island 1. The SMS was to be merged with Colony's N.U.N.S. forces. However, evidence was uncovered that exposed the coup d'état led by scheming Chief of Staff Leon Mishima that had resulted in the assassination of President Howard Glass . This prompted Captain Jeffrey Wilder and majority of S.M.S. personnel to go rogue, leaving the fleet in an attempt to find the missing Ranka Lee. Only a few members of the S.M.S. remained behind and were ordered to confront their former comrades, while the rest attempted to leave the fleet with the commandeered Macross Quarter.

After their daring escaped, the crew of the Quarter investigate the remnants of the 117th Long Distance Research Fleet. This lead to the confirmation of Grace O'Connor's theory of creating an "intergalactic communication network" using fold crystals cultivated by the Vajra. They are able to deduce Grace's plan to control the galaxy through the means of this network. They send a report of their findings though hyperspace communications to Earth's N.U.N.S. headquarters and Earth Parliament. However, believing that their message to N.U.N.S. would arrive too late, Wilder decides that the Macross Quarter crew must take the initiative to put an end to O'Connor's plans once and for all.

The timely return of the Macross Quarter to the Frontier fleet led to the rescue of Battle Frontier from destruction at the hands of a Vajra Battleship. Using the evidence they uncovered, Wilder and his crew revealed to Frontier's citizens that the Macross Galaxy fleet, along with certain members of Frontier's military and government leadership, had indeed been behind the Vajra attacks. They identified Mishima as a traitor, having been in league with the Galaxy's forces, and being responsible for the assassination of Macross Frontier's president. This evidence would later service to acquit S.M.S. of desertion once the crisis was over.

Xaos

Chaos is an independent civilian and military contrator. It was originally a fold navigation business that began venturing into fold wave communication and information, expanding rapidly during the 2050s. They are almost entirely independent from the New United Nations Spacy, and is led by the mysterious Lady M. During the Vár Syndrome outbreak, Echo Squadron and Delta Flight and the tactical sound unit Thrones and Walküre were formed to counteract its effects in the Brísingr Globular Cluster.

Civilians

The City Class ships are designed as the super-long-distance colonization vessels of the New Macross Class. These ships almost always remained docked to the Battle Class vessels except in time of battle when the carrier will detach from the power plant docking unit mounted at the fore of the City ship. Inside the City Class ships is a fully functional city of roughly 350,000 people beneath the main dome. Outside the main city dome there is docking bay island (approximately 300 meters long) and the event dome. The City ships are powered by a separate reactor and even feature a basic space fold system for short-range interstellar travel. The City Class ships have no weapons and the City ship docked with the first Battle Class, Macross 1, had no defensive system. However, later City Class ships are all designed with a defensive shell that covers the city section of the craft in times of emergency (though both docking bay island and the event domes remain uncovered by the shell).

Zentraedi

The Zentraedi.

The Zentradi (ゼントラーディ人 Zentorādi-jin?, lit. Zentradi People) (sometimes spelled "Zentraedi"), referred to as Zentran are a species and faction of giant humanoid warriors. Female Zentradi are known as Meltrandi.

History
The Zentradi were created as a space-faring race of giant humanoid proxy warriors by the first civilization in the galaxy, the Protoculture, 497,500 years ago. They contributed greatly to the expansion of the Protoculture Civilization's sphere of influence and the creation of a Protoculture Stellar Republic that controlled most of our galaxy.

Space War I
As war broke out with The Supervision Army centuries later, the Zentradi entered into combat with their fearsomely powerful force of millions of space warships and mecha produced in thousands of huge automated factories scattered across the galaxy and legions of expendable giant clone troops. After the end of the war with the Supervision Army, the Zentradi fleets travelled the galaxy in search of Supervision Army survivors until they encountered the human race, an event that caused Space War I.

The downfall of the Zentradi nomadic warrior civilization came during this conflict, when the technologically inferior but culturally and spiritually superior "Miclones" (humans) were able to reach the buried emotions of the Zentradi through terrestrial culture and humane actions, especially music and acts of love and kindness.

After 2012, the Zentradi are estimated to have zero of the fleet sizes similar to the 4.8-million-ship Boddole Zer Main Fleet in Space War I. because of this the United Nations Government of allied Humans and Zentradi became the reigning hegemony in near-Earth galactic space.

Culture & Biology
All pure-Zentradi are colossal giant clones roughly 10 meters (33 feet) in height.

Their appearances are similar to that of humans except they have a wider variety of hair colors and skin colors (e.g green and violet). Some Zentradi also go through artificial physical modifications in life such as enlarged brains or even become cyborgs.

Commander type Zentradi are even bigger and some have enhancements that make them physically more powerful and able to survive being exposed to the vacuum of space for limited periods of time.

These modifications make Commander Zentradi able to endure hand-to-hand combat against human machines like variable fighters or destroids, unlike regular Zentradi, who are weaker than Earth mecha.

The alien giants can also be reduced to human size by an advanced and sophisticated bio-engineering process called "miclonization". However, some Zentradi individuals with certain genetic anomalies can take on childlike physical traits when micloned -as what usually happens to Zentradi female pilot Klan Klang.

There are also times that when accidents happen, a Zentradi may permanently lose the ability to macronize or miclonize. The only known case however is that of Ernest Johnson, who is half-human. There are no records of similar accidents occurring among pure Zentradi.

Every aspect in the Zentradi culture and lifestyle is fanatically devoted to warfare. Every individual among both Zentran and Meltran sides exists for the sole purpose of serving in military operations of all ranks, leaving little room for any other role in life.

In order to better maintain control of the Zentradi, the Protoculture trained them only in the limited mix of skills which were necessary for the soldier's particular role in the Zentradi military. It seems that only a few Zentradi were trained in the repair and maintenance of their equipment, and it was limited making them dependent on easily controlled supply stations and factory asteroids.

The Zentradi were forbidden culture by their creators, and were instilled with orders to never interfere with culture-bearing planets and civilizations, again apparently to suppress independent thought and keep an iron loyalty in all the Zentradi forces.

Zentran is their word for male and Meltran is their word for female. The term "Zentradi" would be analogous to how "mankind" is a synonym for "humanity". They also use the word "Meltran" for females of the human species

"Miclone" is a Zentradi word often associated with humanoids similar in size to Earth human beings.

A very common expression among them to indicate surprise, joy or disgust is the word "Deculture", which can be heard uttered by many different Zentradi characters in several Macross series.

For millennia, both the Zentradi and their female counterparts were segregated, leading natural reproduction (the copulation between a male and female) to being impossible. To counter this, both sides were created via artificial means, specifically cloning. Automated outer space cloning facilities serve to produce millions more of these expendable giant alien soldiers.

During the initial days of human-contact, members of the race were horrified and induced into a paralyzing culture-shock upon witnessing males and females showing physical affection (i.e kissing), deeming it a perversion.

Despite this, they are biologically similar with humans and are capable of producing hybrids. Ever since the end of the first space war, many Zentradi have swayed away from their society's strictly-imposed practice in favor of being micloned to live among the humans and interbreed among them as an attempt to strengthen peace. Notable examples include human Maximilian Jenius and his micloned Meltlandi wife Milia Fallyna Jenius.

Protodeviln

The Protodeviln are a race of ancient aliens, and the primary antagonist of the Macross 37th fleet. Though some appear humanoid (through possessing the body of other humanoid beings), and some bear resemblance of vampire-like elves, most are gigantic creatures with few human features, resembling devils. The Zentradi fear the Protodeviln, and would often go berserk while near certain creatures of their species.

They have the ability to possess other sentient beings, bending their bodies to their will. This becomes a significant issue during their assault on the Macross 7 fleet.
They are sensitive to spiritia energy, and would often weaken from sustained attack by sound energy derived from singing. Some Protodeviln also have the ability to turn into pure forms of energy, destroying anything and everything in their path. The lucky few that are drained of their spiritia could be treated by listening to music from Fire Bomber.

Zolan

Zolans (ゾラ人 Zora hito) are an aquaculture-based culture, reliant upon radio as their main means of mass communication and media. They are one of the Children of Protoculture.
Zolans appear nearly identical to humans except for their large, pointed, laterally angled ears and some males feature prominent hair covered forearms. Their other distinctive features are their signature two-toned hair color; their bangs and the rest of their hair are different colors.[1] They are the native residents of the planet Zola; a world only recently discovered by the U.N. Spacy's expeditions into deep space. Like humans, Zolans are another race created by the Protoculture, however, they differ in several areas.
While they are indeed humanoid, Zolans are actually marsupials and genetically incompatible with humans. Zolans possess elongated, pointed ears and two-tone hair colors, with their bangs being a totally different (and usually much brighter) color than the rest of their hair. Male Zolans have large patches of hair/fur that run along their forearms and covers the back of their hands.
Every Zolan also has a small, two foot long, furry, tan-colored snake called a Catsnake with them. These snakes possess three eyes, two on the side and a third one in the center of their forehead. While no obvious words are exchanged outside of a few mewling sounds, Zolans do seem to be able to understand what these snakes are saying. Zolans also seem to be more sensitive to things of a spiritual nature.
As they are relatively new and out of the way world, Zola tends to receive very little notice from the U.N. Spacy. Most of their world has mainly industrial-level tech with the only high tech equipment found on the U.N. Spacy base that is set on the planet. This has given some Zolans the impression of being neglected or shunned by their newfound allies. Still, some have found their way into space and subsequently onto colony fleets.

Windamereans

Windermereans are a race that inhabits the Windermere IV planet in the Windermere System which is surrounded by a dimensional shaft. The governing body of the system is the Windermere Kingdom, which is ruled by King Gramia Nerich Windermere and Prince Heinz Nehrich Windermere.
Compared to other races, Windermereans have a short lifespan, with an average of 30 years though they have extreme physical abilities in exchange. They also age rapidly after reaching "adulthood". Instead of the normal wrinkles they get white spots on their skin as they age. Though Wind Singers who use their powers lose half of their life span. Because their lifespan is so short their normal marriage age starts around the age of 13+.
They are most known for their Runes which look like a part of their hair just with a different colour. They have several shapes and colour depending on the person, and a person can have either 1 or 2 of these. Their runes are something like a "nerve" because it has a lot of roles. It can shine different colours depending on the person moods, so it's like a person showing expressions. People are able to control their runes when they get older so it doesn't constantly show their emotions. Runes are also Receptors which is why Windermereans can't become infected with Var.
Their Runes are also a direct antenna into their minds and thoughts which is why they react strongly if someone touches it. Windermereans don't let each others Runes touch unless the person is really close to them because it connects their emotion and "current" thoughts. When a Windemerean dies their Rune "runs out" meaning it loses it's colour and shine. No matter how amazing their Rune's power actually is the price for using it is their own life-force.
Like humankind and the Zentradi, Windermereans are descendants of Protoculture, and hence known as the Children of Protoculture. They see themselves as being the closest to Protoculture.
They have a strong belief in what they call the "wind" which is like a flow of energy more than actual wind. Every few centuries a "Wind Singer" is born who is seen as having the strongest connection to Protoculture. These are also gifted with more power compared to the average Windemerean. In their orginal belief the Protoculture left behind a "Star singer" which was a priestess that then later passed down her powers to those who are now called "wind Singers".

Voldorians

Voldorians Reunited.

Voldorians (ヴォルドール人 Vu~orudōru Gito) are a feline-humanoid species that appear in Brisingr Star Cluster. Native to planet Voldor, they resemble humans but with feline ears, tails, and elongated claws, which for humans make them resemble cat-people. They are one of the Children of Protoculture.

Ragnans.

Ragnans (ラグナ人 Raguna-jin) are natives of the planet Ragna. They are amphibious humanoids, roughly as agile as humans on land (where they spend most of the time), but they can move quicker and breathe underwater. Their main distinguishing features compared to humans are the gills that run along their necks near the shoulders, fins that extend from about the elbows and webbed digits. They are one of the Children of Protoculture.
Prior to colonization, the Planet Ragna seemed to have little to no landmasses, so the Ragnans were mostly seabound along with other indigenous creatures around them. After the arrival of Island Jackpot Emigration craft, the planet underwent several changes, especially in topography. It is unclear whether or not there were any disagreements or conflicts in between, but by 2067, the Ragnans have become accustomed to life with humans, Zentradi and other races that were part of the fleet.
Though now used to being on land, the Ragnans still have an intimate connection to the sea. As a result, majority of them now reside in houseboats, turning them into a seafaring people. The typical Ragnan diet consists of other sea creatures. Their main staple is the jellyfish, which also serves as a cultural symbol. Certain Ragnan delicacies may not look appetizing for some, but many have taken a liking to them. A lot of Ragnans make their living as merchants, evident from the large number of market streets around the city. Their wares range from food to electronics and even extends to novelty items like "Ragnan Fins" which are advertised to turn anyone into a Ragnan.
They take pride in their culture and exhibitions for certain practices like folk dances are held publicly on a regular basis. One notable traditional Ragnan celebration in particular is the Jellyfish Festival. This event is held during the first full moon in September when jellyfish come to the surface to lay eggs. It is said that a couple that confesses their love to each other underneath the floating jellyfish swarm will stay together for life.
In death, a miniature ship is made for the soul of the person to ride on. The loved ones of the departed drink and reminisce on a nearby coast, later sending off the soul to sea with farewells. Once relieved of sin and pain, the soul is believed to be reborn as a jellyfish.

SDF-2 Megaroad 01

The Megaroad-01 is the first Macross-class ship constructed from the ground. The project began in November 2003, but the ship wasn't completed until September 2012 following the end of Space War I. It was originally a remodeled version of the incomplete Macross Class No. 2 ship only larger with a different bridge design. However, construction halted during war with the Zentradi. Unlike the SDF-1 Macross, the Megaroad-01 had a smaller population onboard, approximately 25,000 people. It also lacked a transformation system, minimal armaments, and low hull strength, making it unsuitable for combat. It would serve as the mothership for the first "Super Long Range Emigrant Fleet" in September 2012.

During its maiden voyage, the Megaroad-01 was captained by Misa Ichijyo, while her husband, Hikaru Ichijyo, led Skull Squadron as its escort. Another notable passenger was the songstress Lynn Minmay. Construction of the Megaroad-02 and -03 soon followed.

In July 2016, barely four years into its voyage toward the center of the Milky Way, all contact with the fleet abruptly ceased. Macross Galaxy, the 21st Giant Immigration Fleet that embarked a few years before the Frontier. Major companies drafted plans and included all the cutting-edge technology they could provide for its construction. So that even during its long voyage, the Galaxy Fleet continued to inonovate, thus becoming a fleet with unprecedented technology such as cybernetics and implants.

The Galaxy fleet was the first human fleet to encounter and fight the Vajra. They were directly responsible for the Vajra War after conspiring to take over the Frontier Fleet and force them into cybernetic Assimilation.

37th Long Distance Colony Fleet

The 37th Long Distance Colony Fleet, also known as City 7. Launched from Earth in 2038 and commanded by Captain Maximilian Jenius, the 37th was the second U.N. Spacy fleet to encounter the alien Protodeviln and their Varauta Army. This encounter in March 2045 marked the beginning of the Protodeviln War which ended just less than a year later in February 2046. The Fleet was also famous for being home of the Fire Bomber music group (also know as the Sound Force unit).

The long journey of a colonization fleet, which can take many years, means that it will be composed of many ships. These ships are linked to the Macross 7 mothership by the "Milky Road", a web of guidance beams enabling smaller vessels to travel safely between the larger ships. All vessels are capable of faster-than-light travel ("space fold"), though Macross 7 requires up to four hours' charging before it is capable of folding.

55th Long Distance Colony Fleet

55th (Super) Long Distance Colony (Emigtant) Fleet is a colonization fleet in Macross Frontier. It is lead by the 25th New Macross-class vessel, the Macross 25. Launched in from Earth in 2041 and commanded by Howard Glass, it became involved in the Vajra War.

117th Research Fleet

The 117th Long Distance Research Fleet was a private Long Distance Research Fleet. It was accompanied by the flagship SDFN-4 Global. The fleet was financed by the Critical Path Corporation in order to research the Vajra and the effects of the mysterious fold quartz. Historically, research fleets such as this were not meant for colonization, but exploration that would have led to a proper colonization efforts.
The fleet had originally been funded by the Critical Path Corporation in order to research the Vajra and the effects of fold quartz. The research team was headed by Dr. Mao Nome and Ranshe Mei, who had brought their children Ranka Lee and Brera Sterne on board. In A.D. 2048, the fleet was suddenly ambushed by the Vajra while settled on Galia 4. Few survived the attack, and it marked beginning of the Vajra War. There were few survivors, notably Ranka Lee.

A Board of Inquiry was presided by Critical Path's president, Manfred Brando, who was displeased at the loss of the fleet and its research. Ozma Lee was present during the inquiry, and was discharged following his assault on Brando after he questioned his interrogation of Ranka Lee.[1] The fleet's destruction was later reported to have been caused by a fold error that resulted in the death of over a thousand people.

Due to joining with the Zentreadi, and having had access to the technology from the ASS-1, the NUNS military and other PMC have access to top of the line inter-galactic technology, and the ability to fight against alien threats.
