Unique Locations
When the Earths converged into one after the Second Crisis, it conveniently didn't collapse upon itself. However, the size of the Earth in DCURPG is somewhat different from the one in the 'Real World', considerably larger, having several more countries and locations worth knowing about.
American Locations
The main setting of the roleplay, the United States of America has a few places not everyone, even in-universe thanks to the Convergence, are aware of.
Xavier Institute: With two campuses, The Xavier Institute for Higher Learning located at Greymalkin Lane in Westchester, and the Massachusetts Academy, located in Massachusetts.
Xavier Institute for Higher Learning: When Emma Frost finally awoke from her coma, she and Banshee decided to convert her Massachusetts Academy into a new "School for Gifted Youngsters" and train Generation X. Professor X agreed to pass on the title while his ancestral home was renamed the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. While the Massachusetts Academy operated as a training facility for younger mutants, the Institute acted as the headquarters of the X-Men.
Under the influence of Cassandra Nova, Professor Xavier publicly outed himself as a mutant. After this revelation, the Xavier Institute once again opened its doors to students, this time with a greatly increased enrollment. To house the new students, an X-shaped dormitory was built behind the mansion. Because Cerebro gained a nanotech body and was eventually destroyed, Professor X and Beast created Cerebra to serve as their new mutant tracking, telepathic computer. The school continued to face challenges from outside, such as protesters and the fanatic cult, the U-Men, but they also faced challenges from within, such as a possessed Professor X, a student-led riot, and Xorn forming a new Brotherhood of students and destroying the mansion. Prior to its destruction, Professor X decided that at the end of the term he would step down as Headmaster and pass the reins onto Jean Grey. Unfortunately, Jean died in the confrontation with Xorn.
Massachusets Academy: The Massachusetts Academy was a college preparatory school for grades seven through twelve, founded in the 1700 in the Berkshire Mountains of Snow Valley, Massachusetts. The Academy was one of the oldest and most respected college preparatory schools in the United States. Run by a board of trustees, a young mutant Emma Frost became chairperson of the board and ran the school.
In addition to a large student body, Frost recruited young superhuman mutants and trained them in the use of their powers at her school, so that they might use those powers on the Inner Circle's behalf. Most of these mutant students were members of a team called the Hellions.
Utopia: Utopia was the main headquarters of the majority of the mutant population and the X-Men. Utopia first began as Asteroid M, the orbital space station of mutant terrorist Magneto. Asteroid M had several levels, including an observation deck, hangar bays, medical facilities, technology that kept it concealed from standard detection technology, and was positioned in stationary orbit, probably over Anya Lehnsherr's (Magneto's eldest child) grave. Magneto completed construction on Asteroid M just before recruiting his original group of Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. It was destroyed in a battle with the original X-Men, when someone was suspected of hitting the wrong buttons that would initiate the self-destruction of the base.
Many years later, Utopia was brought back to the surface by the X-Club, under the direction of Cyclops. Seeing no other option, Cable decided to move the mutant population (then stationed in the Marin Headlands at Graymalkin Industries) to this island, and off U.S. soil to avoid further persecution by the government, and G. Gordon and his H.A.M.M.E.R. in particular.
New York Locations:
Triskelion: The Triskelion is located between Manhattan and Brooklyn in the Upper New York Bay on Governors Island at the mouth of the East River. Each of the three wings that radiate from the central hub serve a different purpose. One wing is the headquarters of the Elite Squad, a team dedicated to solving problems of all scopes before they become an issue for Earth and the entire Prime Universe.
Arcane Asylum: A magic shoppe located in the Village, in New York City, ran by the mysterious-seeming Anastasia DeMarque. Occasional sightings of the semi-known lunatic, Deadpool, have been mentioned on Yelp. Otherwise, it is a small but well maintained and stocked magic and spiritual supply location, for practicing Wiccans and other mystical adepts, as well as the usual crowd of New-Age types. The reputation of the shop is that it does cater to active practitioners of magic, however, for those who know what to look for.
Atlas Foundation: The Eternal Empire (now the "Atlas Foundation") is one of the most inscrutable, pervasive and enduring secret societies on Earth. It traditionally pursued world domination but currently uses its covert power and influence for humanity's greater good. It has existed since the time of the Mongol Empire. The Eternal Empire was established in the at the twilight of the Yuan dynasty in the 14th century, when it was going to be overthrown by the Red Turban Rebellion and replaced by the Ming dynasty. It went underground per the directions given to them by the dragon who had been advising the Mongol Empire, Mr. Lao.
The organization has its own legions of warriors known as the "Golden Horde" and its elite warriors are those of the "Horde Guard".[4] Serving as its commanders or managers are the "Warrior Scholars". Those who are "sensitive" (psychically) meditate near Mr. Lao when he sleeps so that they can pick up images and memories from his past. It's the warrior scholars who are mostly responsible for the establishment of the Atlas Foundation's business fronts.
European Countries
Something something Europe.
Latveria: Latveria, officially Kingdom of Latveria is a small eastern European country within Europe. Its capital and largest city is Doomstadt. It was ruled by Dr. Victor von Doom aka Doctor Doom. It shares with Symkaria the border of Lichtenbad. Colossus also hinted Transylvania was located to the west of the Latveria-Symkaria region. It formerly bordered Rotruvia, which Doom annexed at the early times of his rule. Surrounded by the Carpathians to the north and the Malhela range to the south, Latveria has remained protected from the strife of neighboring countries.
Symkaria: Symkaria, officially Symkrija Kiralysog (the Kingdom of Symkaria), is a small eastern European country within the Balkans. It had been conquered many times over the centuries. It has maintained close ties to the nation of Latveria. Its capital and largest city is Aniana. At some point, Symkaria fell into chaos, due to a very violent revolution. When Symkaria fell, the Symkarian Embassy in New York City closed, and Silver Sable bought the building anonymously to use it incognito, intending to give it back once her country would be restored.
Markovia: Its monarchy was established around 1776. During World War II, Markovia was occupied by Nazis. When they were defeated, most of the Nazis were banished from the place by the United States Army and the kingdom was restored under King Victor's rule. However, Baron Bedlam, a former Nazi who had occupied Markovia, tried to reclaim the throne several years later, causing the death of Viktor. In the ensuing armed confrontation, Bedlam tried to murder the rightful heir Gregor, but he was stopped and defeated by the youngest son of Viktor, Brion, who had gained super-powers and become Geo-Force. With Bedlam out of action, his army was easily defeated by the Outsiders and peace was restored to Markovia.
Shortly after the ascension of King Gregor, Markovia had its first elections for prime minister. The race was between the bureaucrat Wilhelm Vittings and academic Josef Müller. The country was new to this circus, and violent arguments filled the streets. Vittings was in league with Baron Bedlam (or actually, Psycho-Pirate in disguise), and he won by default after Psycho-Pirate mind controlled Müller to commit suicide.
African Nations
Bless the rains..
Wakanda: Wakanda, officially known as the Kingdom of Wakanda, is a small nation in North East Africa. For centuries they have remained in isolation and are now considered the most technologically advanced nation of the planet. Birnin Zana is the capital and largest city. 10,000 years ago, Wakanda was home to a collection of primitive human tribes. It was during this time a massive meteorite made of a sound and energy absorbing mineral, which would later be known as vibranium crashed to Earth. One of the tribes, led by Bashenga, its mightiest warrior, decided to investigate, believing this to be a gift from the gods. When they reached the crater, they found that the material vibrated and decided it would be useful to forge into weapons. However, the radiation the meteorite gave off also had a side effect, turning some of the tribesmen into "Demon Spirits". Bashenga prayed to the Panther God to give him the strength to defeat these demons, becoming the first "Black Panther" since prehistoric times and uniting the tribes to form the nation of Wakanda. His lineage would later rule the country for centuries.
Azania: Azania, officially Republic of Azania is a country located in Eastern Africa and bordering the sovereign nation of Wakanda. Azania was widely recognized as an aggressive nation, notably due to it's staunch Apartheid government and rigid policies. It's capital city is Fischerstadt. Many of the impoverished citizens of Azania united to form a revolt against the government, citing that the Great Panther Spirit was leading them to freedom. The Prime Minister of Azania denied the notion of the Great Panther Spirit, and accused the rebels of secretly working with the communists. One man, a political prisoner, inherited the spirit of the Panther Totem, and transformed into a savage were-creature. He escaped from custody after mauling two prison guards and continued to leave a trail of bodies across the country, concentrating on key figures of power. His victims included real estate developers, the clergy, and even the governor. In response, military leader General Magnus Moorecx formed a superhuman team known as the Supremacists, and publicly accused the nation of Wakanda of supporting the rebel cause.
Genosha: Genosha, officially the Republic of Genosha, is a small crescent-shaped island located to the northeast of Madagascar, on the eastern coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. The island has two major cities, Carrion Cove and Hammer Bay, the capital city. Its land mass covered 1,286 square miles.
Genosha became a thriving country, one of the richest in the world. However, the nation's wealth was due to using mutants as slaves. The government tested their citizens, and any mutants were stripped of basic rights. Mutants in Genosha were the property of the state and children who were positively identified with the mutant gene were put through a process which stripped them of free will and were made into "mutates". Developed by the Sugar Man and given to the Genegineer, the process was capable of modifying certain mutant abilities in order to fulfill specific labor shortages. A new Genoshan regime that promised better treatment of mutants was put in place after Hodge's destruction. A period of general turmoil and a number of attacks by superhumans (including Magneto's Acolytes who were unwilling to forgive the former Genoshan government for its crimes against mutants) followed. The government X-Factor, including Wolfsbane, later returned to the island to help restore peace between its government and a rogue group of super-powered beings that had fled the island. The Genoshan government tried to undo the ill effects visited upon Wolfsbane.
The United Nations ceded the island nation to the powerful mutant Magneto after he demanded an entire mutants-only nation. Magneto and his Acolytes managed to reestablish a modicum of peace and stability only briefly until civil war broke out between him and the remaining human population on the island led by the Magistrates. Magneto eventually defeated the Magistrates and restored order to most of the island, with hold-outs briefly remaining at Carrion Cove before being obliterated. The elimination of the Legacy Virus gave Magneto a freshly healthy army, leading him to declare a campaign of global conquest. A small team of X-Men stopped this plan, badly injuring Magneto in the process.
The entire island was reduced to rubble and its mutant population was slain by Cassandra Nova's Wild Sentinels. There were very few survivors, many evacuated, and the Brotherhood of Mutants turned one of the Sentinels into a memorial statue. Foreign military forces threw up a cordon around the island; no one got in and those trying to leave were fired upon.
Middle-Eastern Nations
Officially part of Asia. Asia is really big..
Bialya: Bialya is a country in located in the Middle East north of Iran and Saudi Arabia. During the Cold War, the country was little more than an arid desert, with a small struggling populace. Captain Nathaniel Adam was stationed in Bialya some time prior to volunteering for the "Captain Atom Project". Some time before the modern age of superheroes, archaeologist Dan Garrett discovered the Blue Beetle Scarab while unearthing the tomb of the Pharaoh Kha-Ef-Re in Bialya. It granted him a vision, giving him the powers and costume of the Blue Beetle. In later years, Bialya developed into a militaristic state led by the ruthless, yet buffoonish Col. Rumaan Harjavti. Under Harjavti's reign, Bialya was a police state, overrun by poverty and political strife. Under Harjavti's reign, members of the United Nations super-team known as the Global Guardians became members of the Bialyan military, causing friction with their replacements in the Justice League International. Harjavti conspired with a former member of his harem, a woman known only as the Queen Bee to solidify his power base, and turn Bialya into a major world power. To this end, the Queen Bee and an alien scientist from the Dominion developed technologically advanced brainwashing techniques that enabled them to maintain control over select members of the super-human community such as the former members of the Global Guardians. Harjavti also captured a member of the Champions of Angor known as Wandjina. With the Queen Bee's help, Wandjina was transformed into the Thunderer, a loyal killer in service to Bialya. It was the Queen Bee who actually pulled Wandjina's strings however, and at a public demonstration, she had the Thunderer brutally assassinate Colonel Harjavti before the entire assemblage.
The Queen Bee declared herself the new ruler of Bialya and instituted aggressive initiatives that seemingly transformed the country overnight. What was once a violent, pock-marked ghetto became a veritable paradise resort. Media analysts compared the New Bialya to that of Acapulco and the French Riviera. The Queen Bee opened Bialya's doors to commerce and trade. She instituted free food programs, twenty-four hour free medical care for its citizenry, cultural exchange benefits and a 100% employment rate. Bialya was the perfect nation.
This miraculous transition however, did not come about through purely ethical means. The Queen Bee developed an implant that electronically increased a person's endomorphin levels whenever they were present in Bialya. Leaving the country however, caused the stimulus to cease, creating what was in effect withdrawal pains. Residents were literally addicted to living in Bialya.
Trans-Sabal: From the 10th through 14th centuries, Sabalia has been ruled by the Farnoq, who were a series of religious leaders claiming to be God's chosen. In this era, Sabalia was a country of poets and prophets[4][1] who made a difference in the world.[4] It resisted all its invaders and held disproportionate power in the Middle East. Modern Sabalians consequently tend to idealize that period.
Over a decade ago, Sawalha Dahn harnessed the disquiet and led a popular revolution, declaring himself Farnoq. Many Sabalians accepted his divine authority, but Dahn grew as an egotistical tyrant using secret police and military to crush any opposition or rebellion,[1] like Shurk's father, a newspaper editor who disappeared along with his newspaper after he wrote editorials against Dahn, and Shurk's mother who was held for questioning (and beating, among possibly worse torments) for a week after trying to get answers. Despite UN bans (thought agreement Trans-Sabal signed) and weapons inspections, Dahn had nuclear and long range missile programs running, causing the UN to issue embargoes upon the country.
After months of war, Jalfaha Dahn purchased all Spider-Slayers from Alchemax (Tiberius Stone stating that when Dahn would demonstrate those weapons, people would stop fighting him and consequently there would be not be more deaths). The Spider-Slayers were sent along the the Scorpion to oversee their use. As Stone and his assistant Mike O'Hara met with Jalfaha in Jaffan, they were targeted by rebels led by Mussaret. Miguel would come face to face against the Scorpion, who led an army of the Spider-Slayers to retrieve Stone, who had been captured by the resistance members who tried to make him cancel the deal or even turn his robots against Dahn. Using Lyla, Miguel was able to trick the Spider-Slayers into attacking Gargan. After witnessing the atrocities caused by Jalfana and his army, and himself being saved from death by the sacrifice of Mussaret, Stone canceled the deal, forcing the dictator to step down, as failure to comply would cause the Slayers to hunt him down.
Kahndaq: It is ruled by Black Adam, and was one of the countries that spearheaded the Freedom of Power Treaty.[1] Its capital city is named Shiruta. At least one of its official languages is Arabic. Culturally, the country is similar to Egypt. As such, the majority of the Kahndaqi population are relatively liberal Sunni Muslims who are willing to view Black Adam as a prophet along the lines of Mohammed. Due to the relatively liberal culture, the social barriers to women in Kahndaq are by no means as stringent as they are in Muslim countries that impose a strict interpretation of Islamic law.
Over 3,600 years ago, Kahndaq was the birth place of Black Adam. In 1600 B.C. Kahndaq was attacked and burned to the ground by the super-villain Ahk-Ton, in which Black Adam's first wife and children were among those killed. The deaths of his wife and children drove Black Adam to take extreme measures to protect Kahndaq. This in turn forces the wizard Shazam to remove Adam's powers and entomb him for centuries.
By modern times, Kahndaq fell under the rule of dictator Asim Muhunnad, who was eventually overthrown by Black Adam and a group of former Justice Society of America members, and executed by Atom Smasher. Black Adam soon declared himself ruler of Kahndaq. Kahndaq was heavily damaged shortly thereafter by the Spectre, during the Day of Vengeance.
Asian Nations
Let me tell you all about the rain..
Gamorra Island: Gamorra is an outlaw island nation located in the western Pacific Ocean. Originally called Parousia Island, it was taken over by clan Gamorra, who landed there in 1543. Centuries later, its tyrannical ruler Kaizen Gamorra was overthrown by the insane immortal John Colt, and Gamorra Island became a factory of horrible cybernetic experiments and illegal technology. When John Colt was overthrown, Kaizen Gamorra returned to power. Shunning biological experiments for more traditional terrorism, Kaizen launched an attack on three major cities of the world (Moscow, London, and Los Angeles), only to be defeated by The Authority.
Kaizen has since returned to the global stage, only this time with promises of more legitimate political behavior. Prior to The Convergence, Kaizen had preparations in place for protecting his island, after having learned of the Reaper Initiative during his time being imprisoned by International Operations, after John Colt's usurpation. Gamorra was protected by its force-field from the global devastation caused by the Reapers, thus becoming the only powerful nation on Earth. The island was then programmed to take flight and directed to UnLondon where it attacked The Authority and their downed Carrier, in order to strip the latter of its technology, in order to travel through the Bleed and conquer other worlds.
Madripoor: Madripoor, officially the Principality of Madripoor, was an island in Southeast Asia, located in the southern portion of the Strait of Malacca, southwest of Singapore. Its capital and single large city was Madripoor, which was divided between wealthy Hightown and impoverished, crime-ridden Lowtown. This served to represent the extreme social inequality in Madripoor, described as "A place for the very rich and the very poor." Madripoor was once a haven for pirates, a tradition that had somewhat continued to present day with its lawless quality; the Principality did not allow other nations to extradite criminals; however, it was still considered one of the business capitals of the Pacific Rim.
The seat of government was originally ruled from Madripoor the capital city. It is governed by an elected Chancellor. It also has a ruling prince as well. It was conquered by freebooters centuries ago, and its heritage of piracy evolved into the present system of government whose laissez-faire policy allows for virtually any business transaction provided that the status quo is not threatened. Madripoor does not allow criminal extradition from within its borders, making it an exotic diplomatic haven for many international criminals and organizations who help maintain the stability of the government through a sophisticated system of corruption that includes payoffs to the Chancellor, who runs the day-to-day government operations. In 1942, Madripoor was invaded and occupied by Imperial Japan in order to control the island's trade routes.
K'un-Lun: K'un-Lun (焜伦) is a mystical lost city located in a pocket dimension, and one of the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven. This mystical city lies in the K'un-Lun Mountains (崑崙山), one of the longest mountain chains in Asia, extending more than 3,000 km. The mountain range exists entirely within the Himalayas of Tibet within the region of China. The gate to K'un-Lun can be accessed every 10 years. The Iron Fist serves as the guardian of the gate and K'un-Lun's protector.
he city of K'un-Lun is was founded when a group of humanoid aliens crashed landed in a pocket dimension approximately one million years ago. The ship's warp drive engine somehow created a permanent oscillating rift between the pocket dimension and Earth. They would appear atop a mountain in the Himalayas of Tibet. The 100 K'un-Lunian survivors created a city around the spaceship, using it's material and design to build the city. No one in the the city aware of that the central hall is the former interior of the spaceship. The K'un Lunians used a gem called the Great Jade Crystal to view Earth and could be used the manipulate the city to arrive in the Earth Dimension at more frequent intervals.
K'un-Lun is one of the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven which, like K'un-Lun, appear on the earthly plane periodically. The other cities are; K'un-Zi, Peng Lai Island, Z'Gambo, Under City, Tiger Island and the Kingdom of Spiders. However, every 88 years all these cities align in a heavenly convergence creating the Heart of Heaven. The cities held a tournament and each has a champion to represent them; K'un-Lun's, of course, was the Iron Fist. The tournament decides the celestial clock meaning earth was the prize. The winning city would appear every 10 years rather then the normal 88 years.
Oceanic Countries
Islands and underwater realms and lands.
North Atlantis: Atlantis was a small continent (about the size of present-day Australia), located in the Atlantic Ocean between North America and Europe, which sank beneath the sea approximately 20,000 years ago. The continent of Atlantis boasted one of the most highly advanced civilizations of its age. After the Olympians defeated the Titans, Zeus sent out two eagles to mark the boundaries of his dominion: where they met was declared the center of the world. It was there he condemned the General of the Titans, Atlas, to hold the Heavens aloft as the Axis Mundi, the world Axis. The continent where he stood was christened "Atlantis" which simply meant the "Isle of Axis"
- Lemuria: Lemuria is one of the oldest surviving civilizations. Lemuria was apparently the only continent where modern man dwelt half a million years ago. During the Pre-Cataclysmic Age (from about 100,000 until the Great Cataclysm), Lemuria remained one of the great continents of its era, and was ruled mostly by the Deviants and their human slaves. After the Great Cataclysm, Lemuria was partly retrofitted by the Deviants, while other parts later became the home of the underwater race known as the Lemurians. Lemuria was founded by a splinter group of Homo mermanus who made their way to the Pacific Ocean whereas Atlantis had been in the Atlantic.
South Atlantis: Atlantis is the ancient sunken kingdom in the the North Atlantic. Actually the size of a continent, it is one of the earliest and most highly advanced cultural and magical societies on Earth. It is further divided into city-states like Poseidonis, Tritonis, Venturia, Shayeris and others. By the 21st Century, it was ruled by King Arthur Curry, the hero known as Aquaman, from the capital Poseidonis.
Krakoa: Krakoa; "The Island That Walks Like a Man"[1] is a sentient living island located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It was once believed that it was spawned from nuclear testing in the area. Somehow, the repeated bombardments of radiation caused the island to mutate into a living ecosystem.[1] Its true origin was revealed to have been part of older sentient landmass known as Okkara a being split the land apart using the twilight sword. Splitting it in two forming Krakoa and Arakko. Although hostile at first, the land eventually became a safe haven for the Mutant people of Earth.
Arakko: Arakko was a sister entity of Krakoa. Both were once part of Okkara, a sentient island that existed in the South Pacific. Several thousands years prior to the Modern Age, Okkara was attacked by an enemy wielding a twilight sword and was split into two creatures, Krakoa and Arakko. Apocalypse arrived with his First Horsemen and sealed away the enemy; however, both Arakko and the Horsemen had to be sealed away with them, leaving Krakoa feeling mournful and lonely. It was later revealed that Genesis decided to make the ultimate sacrifice and lead the remaining mutants to Amenth with Arakko to hold off the Daemons, while Apocalypse remained on Earth to prepare mutantkind for the enemy's eventual return.
Cursed Earth & Mega-City One: Established in 2032, Mega-City One was conceived as an answer to the massive overcrowding plaguing the cities of North America. Originally designed to house 350 million citizens, the population of Mega-City One soon swelled to an astounding 800 million people, a number that would remain constant until the city was devastated by the effects of the Atomic Wars - the Great Atom War of 2070 and later the Apocalypse War of 2104, which reduced its population to 400 million people with living space for half that number. Due to a number of other disasters and crises that have affected the city, and immigration to Mega-City One, the population remained stable until 2134. Following the Day of Chaos, the city has been reduced to a secondary power at best.
New Tian: The Island Nation of Karen Grant and her Independent Mutant Coalition. The place was known by several people involved in intel-gathering, including Wolverine, but it was impermeable to every scanning technology invented on Earth. Logan described it as "the greatest secret in the history of intelligence." Tian was protected from detection devices such as Cerebra. Additionally, the city's walls and floors were built using spintronic slabs. As spintronics store information by using the spin of electrons, it opened the way for quantum-based calculations. Making their buildings spintronic supercomputers. Even the air molecules could be computational substrate.
Trivia - Disclaimer
Obviously none of these places are real, and any semblances to any extant place or people is purely... well, on purpose, comic writers aren't exactly subtle. Most of these places have a real world equivalent. Either way. Don't take it too personal, this is stuff written over 80 years of history, 2021 wasn't a thing yet, don't cancel them on twitter for what they wrote in 1976. Thanks.
